I'm not happy with it. You're not happy with it. The GM's aren't happy with it. Let's get the ideas flowing.

I would like YS to give damage reduction and let you treat the armor minimum trainable hindrance as if we were armor secondary.

Failing that, having it treat the type of armor it is effecting as a category or two lighter armor for minimum hindrance reduction (at tertiary levels still) would also be cool. If say, plate and brigandine could be treated as chain, and chain as light armor, or something. Light armor would get the damage reduction still. Perhaps the damage reduction could scale up as the hindrance reduction scaled down (that is light armor gets more damage reduction than plate armor) to give it a niche no matter the armor type you wear.

Ideas! Throw them out there.

I'd love some form of DR for the WM spellbooks.

DR for the disablers and debuffs maybe but whole spell books would be madness.

hmmm...
No hinderance, no penalty, super super low defense, arm worn air shield?
Physical damage barrier spell? Air armor?
Lower % of overall armor hinderance? Instead of piecemeal.
Air Transformation- if the best use of armor is not being hit. Reflex and evasion boosting whirlwind. Or even a Halo repulse effect.

The first suggestion exists only to circumvent the penalty of being armor tertiary. That function alone I feel is questionable, but when you add damage reduction, I feel it's too much.

The second suggestion is setting plate hindrance to chain, which is even more powerful; that would make YS essentially serve as a buff of hundreds of ranks of defense at high levels, and make Warrior Mages the best plate guild in the game.

For years WMs were the best heavy armor guild - as tertiaries nonetheless - because of this single spell. (Stealth hindrance? What's that?). That function needed to die in a pit, alone and unloved, years ago, and I am leery of power creep allowing it to return.

I think having YS reduce hindrance minimum by a single level (Plate -> Brigandine, Brigandine -> Chain, etc.) might work. Clerics get medium arm-worn shields, this could be a warrior mage's "thing." Given how powerful that perk is, however, I think that and that alone would be YS' function, with no extra bells or whistles, unless it's something limited like damage reduction vs. familiars.

I have no clue what you think that meant, so let me try again: I'd love to see some form of damage reduction for WM's to use on themselves. To take less damage from things.

YS would be interesting as a niche anti-impact/force of impact spell

I love the idea of an anti-FOI spell.

What about having YS improve balance/pulse putting us upright from prone?

The numbers for my initial proposal were pulled out of the air, and mostly were just to be taken as a theme.

Anti-FOI sounds like it'd work thematically. I still think I like the idea of damage reduction best. Also I haven't been noticing much problem with wearing all HP in test, though admittedly I don't mix armor types. I get hit but the armor soaks it up usually.

After 15+ years of hindrance being the worst thing ever, it's hard to get away from that frame of mind.

In 3.0, testing is showing that heavy armor even with much higher hindrance is working better than minimum hindrance in lighter armor.

That being said, I'd love to see a Damage Resistance spell somewhere in our spell list. It would fit perfectly with the description of YS as well.

And definitely be better than the 'armor rank' booster it is now.

Boosting armor ranks does improve your damage resistance, in addition to its effects on hindrance.

Given your an armor tert and thus unlikely to have armor skill > your enemies offense, having an armor buff means you can get a fairly significant amount of damage reduction.
