With the idea of Moon Mages having a spell that causes a spell to snap back and stun the attacker. I think war mages should have something similar but for physical attacks.
I call it backlash
Requires an ethereal shield cast, you'd prep backlash and than cast on an element; electricity, fire, ice, earth. This would deal damage back to the attacker when you are physically struck. Electricity would deal electricity damage, fire deals fire, ice deals cold, and earth deals physical impact or puncture or slice or something damage.
at higher levels of magic skill can have it even backlash at ranged attacks even. like the sorceress' spell from diablo 2.

With the changes to spells as they are I'm not sure if the spell could have a damage component. The idea would be workable (though completely overpowered) if it reduced the balance of the attacker upon a successful SvA.

I see it working nicely on the TM model actually. A kind of passive target magic similar to MoA.
SvA could work if you wanted to take out a damage component.
Fire drain fatigue like frost bite
ice drop balance like ice patch
earth damage weapons maybe
electricity drop weapon like tingle
i prefer a damaging spell, though other effects working passively could be workable.
