You can SHAPE CLOUD and it'll avoid hitting PCs. Takes MD skill (around 400?) to lessen the considerable RT to a manageable level.
My standard Fire Rain routine is:
Prep es 10
cast
remove buckler
<stance set>
prep fr 35
cast
prep ac
harn 15
cast
Doesn't take long at all, really. Liberally sprinkle with streams of "Retreat". ::grins::

1. You can hit yourself with it
2. Aether Cloak protects you 100% from it or AC/ES/shield does the trick?
3. Shape is cool if you're MD god
4. Kill stuff, learn target.
How long does it last? How often does it hit?

lasts a good minute maybe a tadlonger and hits withmost every drop, only problem i see is with critters like swampies in the hummock tend to blocklots of the drops of fire with their shield and have tough skin which absorbs as well , max cast Fr using path damage usually drops 3 fends and 1 troll out of 5 or 6 critters coming at mehwhich makesit much more managable, but this takes time and retreat retreat is happening until i canstand with whats attacking <3 > my main swarm combo is fr at 35 then a 33 Cl clean up anything left standing, in a brilliant mana room i still have plenty of mana left over. still not positive of my max prep yet Cl i think around 37 or 38 same with FR pm 350, harness 345

Consider CL before hand, one of the best parts is the nerve damage it does.
