<<why does charisma help with TM?

Charisma helps in overcoming the magic resistance of your opponent.

Are you sure?

Let me tell story.

1) my MM casts MB on my thief, and stuns him.
2) My thief trains stamina 3 times.
3) My mm casts MB on my thief, same mana as #1, and fails due to MR (mote of light). This makes sense as all stats contribute to MR.
4) my MM circles a bunch. Almost 2,000 TDPs. God bless afk scripting and TF.
5) My MM trains intel up 6-7 points. Casts MB on thief (sama mana as #1), fails due to MR.
6) MM trains up disc 5-6 points. Casts MB, fails due to MR (same mana, 35).
7) MM trains wisdom up a bunch. Csts MB, fails due to MR (35 mana).

At this point I was out of TDPs. I plan on restesting with charisma next time he circle 10-15 times. Charisma may be different, but trend so far is stats no seem to help overcome MR.

Increased PM has helped MM though.

Margash, out of curiosity, any idea how much PM your moon mage needed to overcome a 3 point stamina boost in your thief?

I was under the impression PM only indirectly helped overcoming MR:

More PM -> Lets you put more mana into spell -> More mana overcomes MR.

Or does PM directly overcome MR:
MM with 400 PM fails to MB target at 35 mana.
MM with 500 PM succeeds to MB target at 35 mana.

Nope.

Primary magic lets you put more mana into a spell.

Harness lets you cast longer by using less of the mana pool.

Roughly speaking

Huh, it's amazing the things you learn after a good seven years playing :)

I probably didn't notice any difference considering that they're always at the same level for me

I thought so too, which is why I am interested in the specifics of margash's tests.

Lets see... Every spell has a certain amount of potential vs a specific target, the more primary magic you have the more of this potential you can use, as well as use the same or greater potential at lower mana.

Margash did you test this theory with other spells as well, since it might be a spell specific function?

As per Valdrik, PM helps overcome MR. The question MARGASH was checking was whether any of the stats help overcome MR.

I've been of the opinion that Charisma has some benefit in this regard but it's entirely possible I'm wrong since I've never actually done any testing.

I know charisma adjusts the MO penalty you GIVE to an opponent. Not sure how that would apply to TM though... I was also under the impression only TM, Agility and Disc were involved with the TM calc, and PM was used to overpower the target's MR.
