Ability to target armor pieces/shields or weapons.
Would attempt to damage/destory piece of armor or weapon (while also doing some damage to said area of body[some damage to chest from hitting breastplate]).
Also good way to avoid (B)MR as targeting matrix is placed on an inanimate object.

Unfortunately, people whine when our spells damage armor. That's why AEL was downtweaked to NEVER damage armor again, even though it says in the spell description it hurts armor and shields. All the WMs realized it would irritate everyone else, and everyone else subsequently got irritated and cried to the GMs.

According to previous GM posts, the removal of armor damge from spells is supposed to be a temporary thing, until they have a chance to properly re-evaluate armor values, which I believe Ssra is working on, and then it will be returned, although the amount of damage will be made appropriate for the new armor values. I seem to recall that it was mentioned that this will also be concurrent with the turning on of the player ability to repair armor and weapons.
Armor value includes purchase price, appraisal value/repair costs, weights, protection factor and absorption factor. I seem to recall that there is also a similar re-evaluation in the works for weapons, which is also Ssra's domain.

Not at all. It was removed because there were some kinks in the system that the spell was automatically destroying armor and shields in one shot, which is pretty much a big no-no as it should have been damaging it, but not destroying outright. When everything is fixed I'd imagine it will be returning, but you have to keep in mind we don't like to downtweak things, so it wasn't done out of whim or because crying foul (or in this case as it's Thanksgiving, fowl). It just has to be done sometimes to maintain game balance.

Just so folks are aware, other spells most certainly do damage armor. I've put holes in quite a few sets of chainmail with lash and bolt. I've even inflicted (and been victim to) FS hurting armor, and yes, each little shard gives you a cute little "Your hauberk is slightly damaged" message, and if memory serves, it gets damage from each one.

Zairius,
I suspect that BMR would still be in effect, only because our clerical spell Curse of Zachriedek only affects weapons and armor, and it is affected by BMR. Yes, we cast it at the person, but that is a mechanics issue. Maybe targetting armor would bypass BMR but wouldn't guarantee it.
By the way, wouldn't it be nice to be able to target anything? Including objects on the ground? Even if it didn't teach TM, it would be fun to be able to cast at certain things.

That I agree.. would be rather neat. Also help us get rid of trash on the ground.. cast a few aether lances at junk. Would be rather fun even if it didn't teach anything.

<<<The best warrior mages IMHO are those who started balancing their offenses/defenses in the lower levels and kept up with it throughout their lives. One of the reasons why I say this is because these warrior mages are the ones I wouldn't want to pick a fight with.>>>
Exactly...and as it said is a post before...I too am just a girl.
Throughout our Warrior Mage careers we have had to change the way we train. As do other guilds. It's just the nature of things. An easy way to let changes affect you less is to stay well balanced even if a skill isn't required to circle. This way if you run out of mana, you beat the tar out of the critter with your weapon.
