Thank you for hosting this event, EK. I appreciated the roleplaying opportunities I received at each of the events (although I only attended the figure drawing one for a few moments, unfortunately). This was a meaningful series of events for my character and therefore for me. I look forward to participating again next year.

Special thanks to each of the workshop/lecture leaders as well.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support this year's Solhaven Grand Art Exhibit! We had a wonderful variety of workshops and events thanks to our MHO partners, Caeruil Atelier, the Looking Glass, and the Faendryl Enclave. I can't wait to see where things lead for next year!

The exhibit tent will remain open for another day or two, so you still have plenty of time to stop by to view the exhibits if you missed out already.

For those who were unable to attend, this years entries included:

"Beguiled by Beauty" by Ishan Darcena Wolf-Valslayer -- Best in Show, 5121
a mossy driftwood-edged collection
Spindle-stemmed puffy balls of emerald green cushion moss coil artfully across the irregular shape created by four sinuous driftwood pieces lashed by thin strands of silver. A short clipping of pronged red dogwood protrudes from one end of the curvilinear clumps of moss, creating three-dimensional interest, while selectively placed snake agates peek out of the moss in trios. Mats of soft, umber moss with thicker, bushy gametophytes fill the rest of the space, dotted haphazardly by shards of bloodjewel.

"Lady of Glo'antern" by Ysaeril Illistim -- First Runner Up
a rectangular thanot-framed portrait
Posed in subtle profile, the pale whiteness of a young woman's bare shoulder faintly radiates over the cold, foggy grey background. Marten fur trimming a muted cerulean velvet shawl is drawn up to her breast, where she clutches two flowers: a solitary fairy primrose to match a hint of gauntness in her cheeks, and the other a sprig of forget-me-nots. Her downcast eyes match the hue of her powder blue fillet, which draws sandy blonde locks away from her ears to reveal simple, yet elegant sapphire earrings.

"Canal Hopper" by Aendir and Elaejia Silithyr -- Second Runner Up
a double-hulled lacecut cypress faering,
Large enough for one or two children, the two layers of this vessel's hull display careful attention to each detail. The grey-washed outer hull is a study in delicate laceworking, a motif of water lilies making use of more negative space than actual cypress wood. The lilac-tinted inner hull is stippled in pointille gold that echoes the pattern, glinting in the ambient light. A pair of benches span the interior, and two gilt oar-rests rise from the gunwales, carved in the shape of open-mouthed toads.

"Flight" by Rohese Bayvel-Timsh'l
a series of three narrative canvases
Presented as three vertically aligned paintings, the watercolors feature a transient moment in time. A red kite can be seen circling above its quarry in a clear blue sky. Poised to strike, it guides the eye downwards to the image of an unsuspecting wren flitting through the leafy canopy of a woodland glade. The passerine's song does little to distract an elf in the sun-dappled canvas below. Captured in gold-touched earthy tones, the archer's loosed arrow has taken flight towards the unwitting raptor.

"Ready to Ride" by Traiva Verethundi
a woven silk black horse tapestry
A muscular horse in profile commands the tapestry, its black coat a stark contrast to the pristine white background. Subtle variations in the black threads give shading to the lines of musculature, and dark grey threading draws out the flowing mane and tail. One foreleg is lifted slightly, letting the foot flex so the edge of the hoof rests down at a sharp point. A simple bright royal blue saddle rests across the horse's back, adorned only by an emerald green dragonfly highlighted with gold threading.

"Xanthium" by Faerinn Greatsinger
a mournbloom framed painting
A lithe and pale half-Faendryl form is sprawled over the ground clad in only a bed of black mournblooms. She looks upward from on her back with layers of white blonde hair that cascade under her head as a pillow. She holds in each hand twigs of purple flowering cocklebur that could have been used to cover certain parts but were instead used to frame them.

"The Light Within, The Light Without" by Jossarian Silithyr
an unframed willow tree oil painting
Surrounded by disturbed cobblestones, a vast black willow tree takes central focus in the painting, with desaturated color hinting at motley structures in the background. A rough and deeply grooved texture of brush strokes gives the trunk a fractured appearance, and tiny flakes of silver glimmer deep in the cracks. The branches thin to drooping threads that trail a feathery haze of muted green at an angle, as though caught in a strong breeze. The blurred outline of a red kite soars in the upper left.

"A Cozy Winter's Night" by Roelon McColend
a lumpy tartan wall tapestry
Hastily stitched together from various repurposed kilts, the tapestry depicts a snowy town square surrounded by jaggedly stitched mountains. A misshapen statue of a mule stands tall at its center, comprised of varying shades blue and white tartan. At the base of the mule are several discolored stains, utilized by the artist to create townsfolk sitting around a small blazing fire of red, orange, and black-striped cloth.

"Proportion of incurable Human deaths by age in Wehnimer's Landing, as listed on gravestones." by Alvyara Vilvyre
a glass-adorned haon plank
Ten crystal champagne flutes stand soldierly, shoulder to shoulder, along a plank. At the first flute's base is carved "1-10," at the second's "11-20," and so on through "91-100." Fine umber silt fills the first flute while the second carries almost none. After that, each flute bears slightly more silt than the one before, the volumes rising through "71-80," which is nearly full; the final two hold less. The silt levels form a contour that echoes a serpent with its head raised and back arched.

Untitled by Anonymous
a paint-crusted purple muffin wrapper
Globs of shockingly bright purple paint coat the surface of the white paper wrapper, spattered in a most indelicate fashion. A crust of dried crumbs and fruit peeking from between the smears of paint suggest the wrapper formerly contained a blueberry muffin. Footprints, likely those of a small raptor or owl, cross back and forth through the paint lending a hint as to who or what may have been responsible for this purple and pastry mess.

Do you guys auction these off?

That would be so cool. And then be able to hang it in your Home!

No, none of the artwork is auctioned off. It is entirely possible that some of the artists may be up for commissions, however; I can't speak for any of them individually. The winners will remain on display in future years' Solhaven Grand Art Exhibits at the west end inside of the pavilion.

One of Cairnfang Manor's officers was attempting to coordinate a charity auction for this year, however the timing was not ideal. It is entirely possible that next year may see it happen!

Equally impressed with the events and the overall buz for those nights I was able to be around.

The charity auction remains an interest for myself so happy to help any future efforts there.

Great job!
