Last night, Captain Duncarr of the Imperial Legion took a stroll through Solhaven. There was some pleasant conversation with the locals about rather common things typical of someone's first visit to the area. He mentioned that he was enjoying his free time to see the sights of Solhaven after having spent most of the past week or two inside of Vornavis itself. He also remarked about how he was eager to return to his troops.

(I'll try to continue to post brief recaps where I can. This is actually the first time I've been able to make any of the NPC introductions in town.)

While I missed both evenings' events due to them starting after I had gone to bed, a couple newer NPCs showed up in town over the weekend to chat. If I missed anything, I'm sure those who were there can fill in any details.

The farm girl Camryth stopped by North Market on Saturday evening. She was interrogated again as to why she was wary of wild animals in spite of explaining several times that wild animals routinely attacked livestock on her farm back home. She did offer that strange music would accompany some of the recent attacks and said that she left home because she wanted to help people, demonstrating her aptitude with a sling. She also engaged in casual conversation with locals and visitors alike.

Captain Duncarr Chandrennin of the Imperial Guard (Kassendra's brother) stopped by North Market on Sunday evening. There was a lot of casual conversation, such as about how long various residents had lived in Solhaven and why they stayed after arriving.

Camryth stopped by North Market yesterday evening around 8:30pm eastern. Several locals and visitors engaged her in casual conversation, some of whom told her that contrary to recent advice, not ALL of South Haven was actually bad and gave numerous examples of great places to visit there. She indicated that she was still learning what it was like to be in a city, including getting used to people allowing animals capable of killing and eating people to roam free all around. She later joined a group to attend the Solhaven Grand Art Exhibit drawing workshop put on by Caeruil Atelier, but upon learning that drawing live models included tasteful nude modeling, decided that it wasn't quite for her and left to experience other aspects of the city.

Last night, Captain Duncarr Chandrennin of the Imperial Legion stopped by North Market around 8:30pm. He engaged in some casual conversation with locals and visitors alike. Some of the topics brought up were about how his father came into power during the time of the Horned Cabal, his brother and sister in general, and his positive regard toward the Malwinds, which of course is the ruling family of Vornavis.

Last night was apparently date night. Salnim Malwind and Kasendra Chandrennin stopped by the Art Exhibit while many locals and visitors were gathered for the award ceremony to take in the artwork themselves. There was some casual conversation afterward, with Kasendra noting that there was still much to do, before she suggested to Salnim that they take a walk to enjoy the spring air in the gardens.

Baron Dunrith Malwind and Lord Salnim Malwind held a formal court session this evening in Vornavis.

Honored guests were introduced first - Kasendra, Duncarr, and Ciermont.

Lady Kasendra Chandrennin and Captain Duncarr Chandrennin of the Southern Imperial Legion were in attendance at only the start before departing, noting that they were imminently taking a tour of the nearby baronies to assess the reparations that have been accomplished thus far.

Master Ciermont Von Kleinwerth, Professor of Research and History of the Chantry College, was also in attendance.  He said that his business in town was with two remarkable individuals who resided the barony of Vornavis, and that the Chantry College owed them a response on a matter.

Sir Bristenn Mires of the Order of the Azure Suns and Knight of the Empire was asked to elaborate on a report that he had submitted recently regarding troubles in the far north.  Bristenn described the flying metal manticore sighted near Icemule, the potential danger it posed, and the encounter with one of its gnomish creators.  He described it as a fearsome, non-sentient weapon, controlled by its creators and fueled by plinite.  He explained that its creators intended to sell it to the highest bidder and were eager to demonstrate its destructive powers if necessary.

Baron Malwind noted that he had received an invitation to bid on the creation.  Of it, he stated:

"This is not something that Vornavis will be partaking in.  Nor should it, for a baron to seek to obtain such a weapon does say something to his neighbors and liege lord that such an arrangement is not intended to be kept.
It is a matter that the Empire itself must best determine.  To that end, we have sent word to Tamzyrr itself so that this matter can be properly handled and dealt with by the appropriate parties."

Sir Mires requested to speak with Captain Gurbah later about potential town defenses using the existing ballista towers should the creation be brought to test anywhere near Vornavis.

The court was open for general petitions at this point.

Dame Deavon Laeren of the Order of the Silver Gryphons and Knight-Errant was recognized for her petition.  She offered the Order of the Silver Gryphon as escort and added security for Lady Kasendra's and Captain Duncarr's tour of the neighboring baronies.  Baron Malwind expressed appreciation for the offer but noted that both Aldoran soldiers and Vornavian Guard members were to be present already due to their involvement in the ongoing relief efforts and thus the added security was not necessary.

Sir Bristenn Mires was recognized for his petition.  Bristenn stated that Guarrin of the Order of the Silver Gryphons' armsmen had fulfilled his role as Protector of the Freeport of Solhaven by leading regular patrols to reduce the threat of bandits.  He formally thanked Guarrin in presence of the court, and Baron Malwind added his appreciation.

Sir Cryheart Thaxin of the Order of the Silver Gryphons and Knight Banneret was recognized for his petition.  Cryheart requested that a gift from him be presented to Lady Athalia Malwind, who was not present at court, and it was taken to be relayed to her.

This concluded the court session.

Camryth stopped by North Market last night around 930pm eastern. A number of locals and regular visitors were already engaging one another in casual conversation, and she occasionally joined in. She did seemed curious about knights, apparently having had little experience with them before leaving home.

Imperial Drake Aludria was around Solhaven very briefly the evening of 5/30 around 10:30pm EDT. Since the business with the manticore had concluded in an acceptable manner, she lingered in Solhaven long enough to say farewell to those who she had met before returning south to attend to her other duties.

Salnim Malwind was around Solhaven briefly yesterday evening, starting around 9:30pm EDT.  He engaged some locals and visitors in casual banter while wandering the city.  There was a brief training mishap with no injuries that temporarily shifted conversation, however it eventually returned to touch on recent events.  Kasendra Chandrennin and Captain Duncarr Chandrennin have finished their tour of the relief efforts' progress and are back in Vornavis.  Captain Duncarr will be returning south soon.

Last night, around 930pm EDT, Camryth stopped by North Market to chat with locals and visitors. During the conversation, she opened up a little bit about some of her past experiences, clearly more at home in Solhaven than she had been when she first arrived. Perhaps attending the figure drawing workshop several weeks ago allowed her to finally loosen up a little bit.

She mentioned that some time ago, she, her brother, and her friend Nell were attacked by wolves in the forest. This appears to have happened during the Wihliam of Oire events, where a bard was unintentionally driving wildlife into a panic in the northern Empire, causing them to behave erratically and violently toward any nearby. During the incident that Camryth recalled, Nell tripped and sprained her ankle while the three sought to escape the wolves. Camryth's brother was able to get Nell into a tree, however Camryth herself was stuck below as the wolves approached. She struggled to fend them off with her sling, but there were too many for her alone. Her prayers were answered with a bright light, as a mysterious and unnamed knight with green eyes and a moonlit sword appeared as the wolves went crazy and attacked. He defeated them all, then moved on to help others.

Camryth was unable to further describe the knight or provide his name, however she insisted that she knew that is precisely what he was. While perhaps unrelated, it may be worth noting that Sir Gedrick the Grey has green eyes.

Note: See https://gswiki.play.net/Echoes for information on the Wihliam of Oire storyline, 'Echoes', which took place in 2018.

Malvernus arrived to chat in Solhaven last night, around midnight EDT. He engaged locals and visitors alike in casual conversation, though many did have questions for him regarding the history and training of both Imperial Drakes and Imperial Magisters. He is a bit of an expert in both, after all!

I was not present for the conversations with him due to being asleep for several hours at that point, so I fully welcome further elaboration from anyone else who was there.

Master Ciermont of the Chantry College was wandering Solhaven's streets last night around 9:30pm EDT. He spent some time engaging in casual conversation with the locals and visitors alike in North Market. He also engaged in some more specialized topics based on his interests as well as those of others present. Some of the topics discussed included Nydds and the history of Vornavis as it pertains to the Kraken sands. He expressed an interest in taking a closer look at what sands remained, which were dug up several centuries earlier and dumped toward the heart of Solhaven Bay. While a number expressed excitement about such a prospect, others were wary of disturbing something that may have slumbered for a long time.. and if it would awaken to the detriment of the bay, Solhavne, Vornavis, and even other ports beyond.

For those unfamiliar with the history of the Kraken sands, these excerpts from the History of the Turamzzyrian Empire relate to what occurred in the region before it was settled by the Empire:

c. 3725 (1396 years ago)
A Dwarven clan discovers the opal-laden sandstone cliffs along Solhaven Bay's eastern end. Discovering natural caverns beneath the cliffs, the clan establishes a new community within the caverns, enlarging and embellishing the existing chambers and mining the gem-rich strata.
c. 3775 (1346 years ago)
A small Dwarven hunting party returns to the Solhaven caverns to discover that their community has been wiped out. Only dismembered limbs and great swaths of blood remain of the thriving enclave's population. Rumors persist to the present day, but the true nature of what slaughtered the Dwarven families beneath the cliffs of Solhaven, if it is known, is a secret held by the dwarves. The few survivors gather the remains of the deceased, seal the caverns and inter the remains beneath a massive boulder at the head of the nearby falls. Christening the waterfall "the Cascade of Tears", the Dwarven survivors abandon the location and return to the mountains to the northeast.
c. 4410 (711 years ago)
After two centuries of relative peace, Solhaven Bay's curse once again rears its head as the thriving fishing town is laid waste in a single night. The community's future becomes tenuous as the same calamity befalls the town three times in as many years. Piecing together the evidence and the distorted accounts of those who were able to flee each time, visiting sages from the east conclude that the opal-flecked beaches, which the town is built on, are a "nesting" ground for kracken. Whether eggs were actually laid at some time in the distant past, or whether the sands somehow cause the creatures to simply spring forth from the ether, the conclusion is that rebuilding the town will be a waste of time unless all of the sand is removed first. During the extensive examination of the beaches at the base of the cliffs, the sealed entrance to the Dwarven caverns is discovered.
An envoy is sent to the nearest Dwarven outpost to request information and the dwarves' guidance as to whether the site is sacred and how they might regard the community's plans and proximity. The envoy returns with a fairly complete account of the Dwarven enclave's unfortunately brief history and the assent of the dwarves that the community is welcome to the beach, the caverns and the cliff top. It is at this time that the Dwarven name for the falls becomes known and is adopted as the falls' "real" name. Also, the dwarves' comment regarding the cliff top fortress is communicated verbatim, and, although those claiming knowledge in the Dwarven tongue debate whether "vorn ahvis" means "high sanctuary" or "high tomb", the name sticks. The cliff top defenses are expanded as the town is rebuilt high above the beach, and a decades-long task is begun to excavate all of the sand from the base of the cliff and haul it a safe distance to the south.

I just want to take a moment to say how much I appreciate people taking the time to contribute to the recaps of things going on in Solhaven, whether posting it themselves or passing it along to others. I also hope that no one feels like they cannot do this themselves if they so desired, as recaps do not need to be long, even a brief little bit of information can be helpful.

I also wanted to offer a little bit of clarification on some of the things that happened during the discussion last night. As it did get a bit lively at times, and did meander around on its focus, I believe this lead to some variance in what was being discussed or proposed.

The discussion of the kraken came about because Master Ciermont mentioned he had been reading up on local history and was specifically asked about any parts that stood out. The Curse of Solhaven Bay portion of the regional history did. From here the discussion talked about the kraken, how they were not myths as some thought, and how the people of the region solved the problem (moving their birthing sands out to what is now known the Kraken Sands away from the city). Some more recent encounters with kraken were brought up, along with the piece of a kraken collected during that encounter. Master Ciermont never did bring up going out to the sands. He specifically mentioned avoiding field research following his experience at Maelshyve, and the talk about kraken was purely a historical one. And he did compare this portion of Solhaven/Vornavis history with some of the history of his own home of Nydds in Hendor when it experienced the Witch Winter some 500 years ago (the details of which can be found in the same Turamzzyrian History document linked in the previous post). Master Ciermont also did make some comments regarding Solhaven only having one library, compared to what he is used to back in Nydds, which is a scholarly city.

On 6/9, Sir Gedrick the Grey stopped by North Market around 9:30pm EDT. He engaged in light conversation with locals and visitors present in the town center. Conversation shifted toward the events several years ago, during the storyline Echoes, where the bard Wihliam of Oire unintentionally drove nearby animals into a frenzy when he played his music. Several present asked more pointed questions and eventually discerned that Sir Gedrick was likely the same knight that had saved Camryth and her friends from a pack of frenzied wolves. Sir Gedrick said that he vaguely recalled the incident, and it had been one of many attacks on people in the area that evening, which was also the last evening that the music had played. Several encouraged a reluctant Sir Gedrick to agree to meet Camryth, explaining that he had made a very positive impression on her and inspired her to help others just as he had helped her and her friends.

For more information on the Echoes storyline, see: https://gswiki.play.net/Echoes

On 6/10, the farm girl Camryth stopped by North Market around 9:45pm. Several among those locals and visitors gathered told her that her likely hero had finally been identified as Sir Gedrick and explained that he was also in town. Sir Gedrick himself eventually arrived in North Market after several public requests for his presence, and the two shared a heartfelt reunion where Camryth was finally able to thank Sir Gedrick for saving her several years ago. Camryth then asked if Sir Gedrick would allow her to train as his squire, but Sir Gedrick said no. Several present for the reunion suggested that she consider requesting to squire with the Order of the Azure Sun, a chivalric order that is based in the Vornavis-Solhaven region.
