Three cheers for the new automation of the dues system.

What are the plans for those members who have previously paid for lifetime memberships? I'm sure that accounts for a substantial number of people.

Also, any thought on when the new dues system will be turned on for Silvergate?

Check the announcement topics for details, and, yes, you did.

The House dues system has been automated.

That's super great news for Silvergate members, who will now be able to pay their dues without needing to find a House officer to do so. It's even better news for the House officers!

It does, however, create a problem for members who have paid for lifetime memberships (like me), because the automated system doesn't grandfather us in. So we'll either have to pay the lifetime fee AGAIN, or start paying monthly dues. Presumably the house officers will refund to us the double-dip on the lifetime membership, but there hasn't been any word from them on this.

Of course, until the officers decide to turn on the automated system (it's OFF until they turn it on), nothing actually has changed.

As Treasurer of the Inn, my immediate reaction to this implementation is "OMG!"

For now, the DUES system has not been turned on for Silvergate Inn. Enegue has not informed us (the officers) of his plans for using this capability so until he decides, there is not a problem since nothing will change from the way it is now as Tsoran has said. If he does decide to turn on DUES for the Inn, we will have to come up with a fair way to do this changeover. I can imagine the Inn officers walking around with 100,000 coin notes drawn on the General Fund of the Inn to give to lifetime members to allow them to pay their dues again which would then be automatically deposited back into the General Fund. We, the officers, would then have to check off that lifetime members name on the list of those members.

I also anticipate the ire of those members who have been paying dues but have perhaps been lax in keeping them current when they are not allowed past the oak door to get to their locker. We can send out a letter to the members that are on our Inn mailing list but I am positive that there will be members that do not know about the DUES implementation. They also may not know about the new ability for the House Clerk in Moot Hall to receive their dues, and will be enraged to find they cannot access the Member's Lounge and their locker.

All in all, the DUES system will be a much easier way for the Inn to collect the dues from members in the future BUT we (again, the officers) will have to come up with a way of letting ALL of the members know about the changes and make that transition as painless as possible.

We'll see what Enegue decides and then start the task of letting all the members of the Inn know what is happening.

Do you have up to date lists of who is active and who isn't? Would it help if the lifetime members spoke up? I happen to have a lifetime member in my stable, but I read the boards on a daily basis, so notifying me and people like Mike that read regularly will be a cake walk. Is there anything us regulars can do to help so your "OMG!" doesn't send you into spasms, Oldtimer? ::grin::

So far, I'm still upright and not twitching ::grimace::

As of right now, Enegue is the only one who has the list of lifetime members. As you said, the problem won't be with members like you and Mike that DO read the boards but rather with members that will have no idea of the problem until they can't get into their locker(s).

We'll just have to see what Enegue decides and then I'm sure we'll be open for ideas on to how to minimize the ire of Silvergate members.

I'm sure they'll figure it out quick enough. There's nothing like not being able to get into your locker to wake people up out of their comatose states and get them to pay attention. ::wink:: Besides, unless people have been getting away with not paying dues, they'll like this change. At least the non-lifetime folks will.

The lifetime members -- well, generally we're lifetime members because of how onerous the process of paying dues was. So we get that this is a "good thing". People are always going to complain about, well, everything, but they get over it.

hmmm...possibly I'm in the minority here by seeing this as a non-issue.

Honestly, I hope Enegue turns on the system soonish. Once he does, for a whopping 400K all my characters can continue to use the member services and I don't EVER have to worry about tracking down an officer...Since only 3 have already paid the lifetime membership it'll really only cost me 300K.

If you have a lot of accounts I can see how this might be an inconvenience, as it could get over 2 million in extreme circumstances...for the rest, is 100K really enough to be amazingly concerned about?

Sure, it's double dipping, but for the extra locker space and a place to call home...I'm ok with it. I always thought 100K was a bargain anyway. Face it, with the way inflation has gone in the Lands, 100K isn't worth nearly what it was when the inn was first built.

But that's just me...I'm willing to pay for convenience, which admittedly is a choice.

My 2 silvers, if it's worth that much.

Or maybe I'm not in the minority, since no one has countered in going on 3 weeks.

Any word from Enegue on when he's planning on turning DUES on?

Nope, he hasn't issued anything yet. We'll just stay with the system as is until we hear from him.
