So I've got an idea for a character. Well actually, it's one from a long time ago, but I've been away. A charmingish sort of ladies' man with a secret sensitive side! Never been done before, right?
Anyway, he seems fun to me. I want to get into this, but I'm at a wall I can't seem to climb over: Racial choice. Halfelven fits him so very nicely, but from an OOC perspective, I heartily dislike being the 'reject' race... and so I'm leaning toward plain ol' Elf, which suits HIM less but ME more. Maybe it's the coward's way out, but I've roleplayed the 'reject' race before and disliked the doors it slammed shut on me.
So...thoughts?

I'm not terribly excited about those races, unfortunately. Meaning no offense. My Ranger is a human and having returned after years I am wishing I could by a Fixrace potion. :( What was I thinking?
Suffice it to say my tastes have changed in the last thousand days or so!
....a thousand days.
......I feel old.

Now what is the plural of dwarf? Just to avoid any confusion I pluralize dwarf this way: midgets. Also "little peeps" is an acceptable derivation.

Not sure if this idea is still in the works/being decided on/ or running, but here's my two cents.
If half-elven fits him so nicely, why not go with it? Who says you have to play the reject part? RP-wise, you could always make him so he was raised by elves and therefore (perhaps) he doesn't even KNOW he's half-elven. I have played characters in the past (and currently) who have aspects of their own history they don't know and discover as I play them. Other people wouldn't know he was half-elven (technically) unless you introduced yourself that way anyways. There's plenty of pointy ear/elven features you could use to stress the elven side and eliminate anything that's obviously human (like beards). The biggest RP downfall I see is that shopowners who are biased against half-elves won't care about your RP (since their automated) but if you RP the I"m really an ELF side well enough, what will be people do? Say you're not? How would they know? I thouroughly enjoy playing a race outside of it's normal parameters and see where it goes. Be true to the character idea that you have and you'll be surprised where you end up. Sometimes they take you on roads you never even considered.

I totally agree. Let you're roleplay talk for you.
I've known people who play one race.. But are actually another. Case in point.. A half dark and half sylvan... To anyone around they might look like just a lighter dark elf or a dark regular elf.. They could go their whole life not knowing the difference. So therefore they could play a dark elf and itd be fine.
