Hi,
I am loving the ESP changes, and have had some really fun RP interactions over the General channel. Huge kudos for rolling out this revamped system.
That being said, it's apparent that a lot of confusion exists as to which channels are OOC vs IC. I'm seeing a ton of OOC chatter on the General channel, and I believe it's accidental as opposed to malicious. So how can we fix this?
-Renaming channels with various labels has been proposed
-Increased moderation by GameMasters
-If GMs are way too busy to monitor chatter, perhaps GameHosts could act as ESP mods?
-Positive reinforcement - I plan to roleplay nominate good RP on the ESP net when I see it, and I hope you join me in this.
-Other thoughts/suggestions/ideas?
It's a lovely system, but I think the playerbase overall needs a little more help in adapting to the changes. It's getting to a point where the OOC chatter is almost outweighing the roleplay. I'm really hoping that once we get over the initial readjustment, that roleplay via ESP will be second nature.

There's no reason the entire burden needs to be on NIR. Players can help too:
-Send a polite thought directly to them suggesting they move to the OOC or HELP channel.
-A lot seem to have trouble with the syntax and accidentally send thoughts on the general channel instead of privately without realizing it, let them know in a private thought and offer help with syntax
-Not directed at anyone specific: Set an example and be stubborn about remaining IC when on IC channels, I see a lot of folk breaking character to correct others

Personally, I feel most of the confusion is because GENERAL chat in just about every other game or instance and especially on LICH is out of character. I've never personally seen a channel named GENERAL in any game that is intended to be in character and roleplay oriented.
General should have its name changed to Roleplay or In-Character. It should be immediately apparent to anyone that sees a channel named Roleplay what the communication style of that channel is.

Just thinking out loud (or in text in this case). I'm not sure I would know what topics I should be discussing on the WORLD or ELANTHIA channel? It comes across as being restrictive somehow and doesn't convey it is a channel for general (in character) discussions. At least not for me.
I'd rather be hit over the head with the channel designation (OOC or IC) so there is no doubt and would also like for it to be very clear for anyone else using it as well. I wouldn't personally find this disruptive and if I did I could alias the offending IC/OOC text designation out.
Just my two silvers worth.

I think it's a more in-character way of (and yes, I agree that it is not bat-over-the-head, but... in-character [-ish]) indicating that you are thinking to the whole of, well, Elanthia.
So those inquiries of, "Can we get a rezzer in Icemule?" from last night would be entirely appropriate.
But the ones asking about, "Can you get your LTE boosts in the Arena?" would not be.
"How can I hit the undead?" and answers of, "If you're a cleric or paladin, white ora & eonake weapons." would be.
";symbless works on weapons with CER <= 15" would not be.

Haxus, thanks for the reply! I appreciate the GMs and GHs who are making efforts to monitor the channels. It's not a fun job, I'm sure.
As for channel names, maybe just calling it ROLEPLAY would clarify - although you'd lose some immersion.
And, Alastir suggested on Discord that all OOC channels use the CHAT verb while all IC channels use the THINK verb. I think right now it's a mixed bag, which could be adding to the confusion.
As for players policing others, I personally loathe doing this. I used to moderate an LNET channel and I hated it, so I quit! Instead I'm going to make a good faith effort to RP over ESP more, and I invite you to join me in conversation. It's been really fun RPing while doing the arena. I don't have to choose, I can RP AND I can advance my character at the same time!!!! Wonderful! Also, don't forget my promise to RP nominate chatter on ESP. I hope you join me in that as well.

Along with this I think ALL channels should be autotuned. Before I EST TUNEd OOC CHAT would not work. With all channels ON you can opt out of the ones you want.
Right now when I THINK its on General and when I CHAT its on OOC. Loving it! Only lil bit of extra work is when I THINK on HELP .. message.

There's lots of bouncing between channels, conversations will happen half on GENERAL and half on HELP (and probably half on some OOC channel that I'm not tuned to because I see all sorts of non-sequitors too). When a conversation is going on split across IC and OOC channels, it easily wanders OOC in the the IC channels. I get why HELP is set up the way it is, but its also the cause of a lot of OOC on GENERAL too.
Its just too easy to see HELP and GENERAL as essentially the same at the moment and to slip back into GENERAL while engaged in an OOC HELP conversation.
Suggestions
Different default colors for OOC and IC thoughts.
Separate windows for OOC and IC.
-OOC or -IC at the end of every channel name.
CHAT for all OOC channels
Default the next thought to be to the same channel as the previous one.

Thanks for the shout out.
I think the base cause is that people are used to:
;chat to
;chat on
But now they are forced to:
think on
think to
We need to be able to CHAT TO and CHAT ON the OOC channels. While using THINK TO, THINK ON, IC channels. That way the familiar CHAT options are still the same. There is also a different verb to use to use IC channels so there is less confusion about which is which.
