Hi folks!
We are looking for GameHosts!
What's a GameHost, you may ask? GameHosts volunteer their time to serve as our front-line when it comes to customer service - they are primarily responsible for working the ASSIST queues that players utilize for all forms of customer-related issues. If you've ever assisted in-game for any reason at all, chances are that a GameHost helped you out at some point in the process. GameHosts are fairly knowledgeable about the basics of gameplay. That does not mean that they are necessarily GS encyclopedias of knowledge, but they do know how to research an answer and, most importantly, interact and communicate with others via the GS interface in a professional manner.
What's required of a GameHost? GameHosts work 3 shifts a week (shifts run ~2 hours) and attend 1 team meeting a month. During training, GameHosts attend trainer shifts (and we will attempt to make that possible within your schedule restraints); after training, you choose your 3 set shifts based on your availability and our needs. At this time we are looking for folks with a willingness to work a shift on Saturday and/or Sunday. That's the basic jist of it. There are some other, non-required but fun items GameHosts are able to participate in from time-to-time, if they are interested.
What do we look for in potential GameHosts? Actively playing, account in good standing, comfortable talking about basic technical aspects of GS and gameplay (or at least not afraid to try it!), ability to consistently commit to 3 shifts a week, decent typing speed, and a good quantity of patience. Customer service experience in pretty much any field is extremely helpful, though certainly not required to be considered. Note that these are the broad strokes of the qualities that we look for, but there is no cookie-cutter mold -- if you don't quite fit into the above but think you might be a good GameHost, use the application to explain why!
A few extra notes: (1) We often get questions regarding past warnings and whether or not you are eligible to apply if you have any: yes, you are -- we take into consideration the warning type, how egregious you were about it, and how long ago it was when making decisions. (2) You must have been actively playing for the past 6 months to be considered currently.
If you are interested in becoming a GameHost: Go to https://www.play.net/gs4/apply/apply.asp and click on the "Join the Team" link under the GameHosts section. Once you do that, there are three parts to the application: (1) Personal Info; (2) Application (Questionarre); (3) GameHost Application/Test. You must have all three parts filled out in order to be considered. Bear in mind that comprehensive answers to questions (where applicable) give a much better picture of a candidate than one-word answer ones.
We will be looking at applications submitted and/or updated between July 1 and October 15th of this year. If you submitted an application prior to July 1st and wish to be considered, please be sure to update the "Application" portion to fall within our viewing time-frame (to do that, find some time before October 15th comes to an end to click on "Update Application," scroll to the bottom, and click on "Submit." That will update the timestamp, even if you aren't changing any of your info... though we suggest you do a quick glance to make sure your answers line up properly to the questions that were updated last year).
If you have any questions, please feel welcome to post them here or shoot me an email at my play.net!

To Whom it May Concern,
This is just to address some concerns regarding the process involved in hiring of new staff members for Simutronics.
The series of events for this issue is:
- this post was generated on the 16th of September 2019.
- The cutoff for application submission was the 15th of October 2019. (30 days)
- I posted a comment on the 5th of November (20 days after cutoff) with no responses.
- Today is the 9th of December 2019 (50 days after cutoff) and there has still been no update to this post from official sources.
If this is the standard operating procedure for the hiring process, then I am seriously concerned for the welfare of this company.
I understand that Ebon Gate threw off the timeline for this, but we all knew that Ebon Gate would take up a lot of time for Gemstone Staff, and as such the hiring post should have either been moved up or more likely delayed until after Ebon Gate had ended. Taking into consideration the nightmare of Staff schedules during Ebon Gate, I will "discount" the first 20 days after the cutoff, but that still means that it has been 30 days of time to review submitted applications. That being said, I must comment that if I were to have taken 30 days to respond to applicants when I was on the hiring board for full time employees in ANY of the places that I worked, then the company would actually have been looking to hire one more person because I would have been fired for inefficiency.
In my personal opinion, this is unacceptable and is a slap to the faces of all those people who put forth the time and effort to apply, thereby showing ther desire to take greater part in a game they love so dearly.
IF the decisions have been made to interview applicants already, then my complaint still stands in that those not selected for interview were not notified, nor have there been any REVIEWER COMMENTS on the applicants submitted job applications.
These are just my observations regarding this post, and I do hope that my concerns do not get ignored or brushed aside.

Few companies do this, esp for what's essentially an entry level position.
Simu holds onto apps for quite a while before they no longer consider them, just because someone wasn't selected for the first round of interviews doesn't mean they've been rejected completely. When I was contacted to interview to become a Mentor, I'd actually forgotten I'd ever submitted an app for it.
Regardless, publicly criticizing and complaining about hiring practices when applying for a position that requires a good deal of discretion isn't likely the best way to get the job.

Actually, this is incorrect. This may be the case with companies that YOU have worked for, but when I was dealing with the hiring of new personnel at Law Firms, Tech companies and even for the Federal Government, we always sent out emails to those that were not selected for the interview round. This was POLICY in each of those businesses, and not something that I was doing on my own either.

I already know this, as it was mentioned in the OP, but it was also mentioned that they look at applications that were submitted AFTER certain dates, meaning that if someone applied to become a GH last year, they would not be considered because their applications would not be read at all.
<Regardless, publicly criticizing and complaining about hiring practices when applying for a position that requires a good deal of discretion isn't likely the best way to get the job.>
I stated in my application that I was brutally honest, and that I refuse to candy coat things for people because they might get their feelings hurt. I am always up front and honest about my personality, and I refuse to alter my personality for anyone. If you don't like it, that is YOUR problem, not mine. If Simutronics doesn't want that level of integrity in their ranks of employees, then that is their decision as well. If I am witness to something that could use improvement, then I will speak up. I do not believe that senior leadership in ANY company only want to hire "yes men", and I will continue to speak my mind and offer my opinion (even if it hurts someone's feelings) no matter the circumstances.
And to be honest, if they don't like my "attitude" and choose to not view my application because of it, then that is their option. But truth be told, if the reviewers choose to go that route based on the fact that I "publicly criticized" the practices, then I wouldn't want to work for them anyway.
The entire point of my post wasn't public criticism, but concern that things could have, and probably should have been done differently. The seeming ignoring of those that apply does not tend to build confidence in the company that offers a service to such a small community. When potential applicants feel slighted or snubbed, then the next time the call goes out for Game Hosts or Game Masters then there will more than likely be less and less interest which would lead to increased and undue stress on the current staff because they will be unable to find qualified applicants.
TL;DR If you have a position that only 10 people are qualified for, don't alienate 8 of them in the process.

Truthfully, this should have been sent to the email so it's PRIVATE and not PUBLIC. Idk though. Like... you don't publicly write / criticize a company that you applied for a job for and then expect to get hired... even if you are indeed concerned. No, you go through the proper channels. Typically you contact the HR department (assuming they are controlling the hiring process) to follow up. If you are going through a consulting company, then you follow up with them. Either way...that usually means either a phone call or an email... not posting in a forum.

I can see your point, and I would agree with you other than the fact that if you notice, I posted a question on the 5th of November. The question was an RFU (Request for Update) and not a criticism or a "burn". This went unanswered on the forum. There were no updates to the status of the process at all. It was just a "Hey, we're hiring, apply before the 15th of October" and then nothing. Nothing to denote that there was a delay, nothing to let the applicants know that they hadn't been forgotten or anything. Even if they have started the interview process, they could have at least posted here in this forum that they have looked at the applications and have made their selections for interviewees with a "We have sent out emails to those selected for the interviews. If you did not receive one then we are sorry, but please apply again next time we are hiring."
So, again, no passing of information of any kind. This lack of communication or update is something that I have heard many GM's mention several times in the past on different forums and that they were working to rectify that. If I shot myself in the foot with this posting then so be it. Although I am hopeful that they will take it as a chance to make improvements in their internal policies and procedures rather than an opportunity to brand me as either high maintenance or a troublemaker.

Don't feel bad if you don't get any kind of response. From what I witness in other aspect of the forum, most posts go...I wouldn't say ignored, but they're not really given any attention from the folks that could give us answers we ask questions to.
These days, it seems, if you're not asking on Discord or directly emailing folks like Wyrom, don't hold your breath for obtaining a reply on these forums.

Yeah, they're not hiring you now. Seems like you're Very Important though, so you'll be fine.

Ah yes, there we have it. One of our wondrous forum trolls. My posts were concise and to the point, I outlined experience and timeline of events. The information passed was constructive as well.
And yet here you come, Vicimer and the only thing that comes from your end of the screen is an insult. None of my comments were directed at individuals but at the system and the way I viewed things as happening. But in 16 words you ended up violating Policy 3.
<GemStone IV Player Policy: Abusive Or Disruptive Behavior
General Behavior
Because GemStone IV is a multi-player game, there can sometimes be a conflict between an individual player's idea of entertainment and that of the majority of the players as a whole. In such situations, the majority will be given the greatest weight.
GemStone IV is designed for the enjoyment of everyone, and as a general rule, any behavior which is specifically targeted to lessen that enjoyment for another player may be in violation of GemStone IV policy. While what is disruptive is an extremely long list, it includes things such as vulgarity, harassment, sexual misconduct, cyber-bullying, out of character threats, doxing, and actions specifically targeted to be disruptive. Threatening violence, using hate speech, and engaging in any sort of personal harassment can result in immediate account termination.
This applies to all interactions within the in-game environment, Play.net Forums, GSWiki, and the official GemStone IV Discord server.>
Your comment falls under personal harassment and cyber bullying since it was directed at me specifically in order to illicit a feeling of shame and anger. To get back to the OP's concern, we actually had staffing changes. This was unexpected. We'll likely be getting to the applications early next year.
With GameHosts, we don't hire large numbers anymore. Usually just one to three. The timeline from announcement to interviews is usually one to two months. And then it's usually one to two months before we bring new hosts on.
With GameMasters the process is a bit longer due to the coordination between the training team and the team we're hiring for.
We don't try to prolong this, we're just a small group. We've also been having a lot going on this last quarter that has taken almost all my attention.
We'll be sure to post when things are back in order.
