Players may now inspect other players' hand-held items.
Take the chance to gawk at that other person's Vorpal Blade of Awesomeness.

General demeanor rules will still apply.

While we're talking about "things in other peoples' inventory", I've been meaning to ask: Is there any command--it may be as simple as 'show', and I've just forgotten about it--that lets someone else see what is inside of a container?

Specifically, if I 'show keios my green pouch', will Keios be able to see that there are three sapphires and a banknote inside the pouch?

If there is not currently a way, could there be one? (Show, display, itemize, some other verb that I haven't thought of.)

I believe it does this now.

And INSPECT has been so fun for years. Probably one of the best kept verb secrets in game (even though it's no secret).

I kind of thought it did but wasn't positive. Is that only for hand-held containers, or can I (for example) tip open the tops of each of the three sacks/pouches/sachets that I'm wearing on my belt? (Hand-held and worn work, or just hand-held, in other words.)

And probably a silly question, but... in the case of like the banknote in my example, does it just say "a banknote" or does it say "a banknote worth 5000 silvers"?

You know. . . I'm not sure, Robert. I think it has to be hand-held OR have a show. Good thing to figure out.

In terms of the contents themselves, it is just like you peeking into the bag. You see a list of short descriptions. Notes do not show value. There's one oddity. There's a limit to what can be 'seen' quickly. So you will frequently see the ". . . and a bunch of other stuff." tacked onto the end.

I haven't tested this either, but I think the list you see in your own bag is a bit longer than the list another might take in, in that glance when you show them that same bag. Then, of course, there's sort order, as well. . .

No, I'm not really worried about "and a bunch of other stuff"; I was approaching it from the standpoint of just one item being in there. But since that item would be a banknote, I wanted to know if the value was seen.

Yeah, I suppose I could login and check it, couldn't I? :)

When SHOWing an open container to someone, they will see the first few items as Doug mentioned.
They will be able to see banknotes in containers, but not the value of said banknote.

That's hoopy, and exactly what I needed.

Need they be hand-held, or will worn containers behave the same way?

It will work with worn containers.

Thuunk has a fun time sometimes just looking into gnoll ranger and thief pouches.

>inspect bag on thief
You carefully inspect a stained cotton bag.

You estimate that a stained cotton bag can store a medium amount with enough space for any number of items.

You determine that you could wear the bag, attaching it to your belt. The bag appears to serve some purpose.

>look in bag on thief
There is nothing in there.

You see? Old Thrak does not advise kobolds and gnolls to keep their containers closed. But gnolls rarely carry anything worth looting until after they've spent some time foraging mushrooms.
