Often times I find myself wondering what race a particular character is. Occasionally when I LOOK at someone, however, the screen scroll from their wardrobe, and subsequent conversation, pushes the race and feature information up rather quickly. I then have to scroll up to see what race they are. While normally not a problem, it can cause issues when I'm trying to be quick-witted and insult someone's heritage.
I suggest this:
glance race: Standing close by are Maags, a halfling, Sareyna, a human, Valkenhayn, a dark elf, Greycrown, a half-elf, and Azimar, a dark elf.
Now, I don't know how cultures are coded, but you may notice dark elf and half-elf. Ideally, this glance would include culture (Faendryl, half-sylvan, Dhe'nar), as opposed to race.
Another possibility would be a brief version of LOOK.
look quick dude: You see Dude the Invoker.
He appears to be a Dhe'nar Dark Elf.
He is average height and appears to be very young. He has brooding chestnut eyes and nut brown skin. He has short, unruly dark brown hair. He has an angular face and sharp pointed ears
or just:
You see Dude the Invoker.
He appears to be a Dhe'nar Dark Elf.
Of course, both would be sweet, too.

I use the PROFILE verb when I want to grab someone's race quickly. The upside of this is PROFILE works when they aren't in the room, so I can refer to them as "the elf" when in truth I can't remember what they are, and you can't hide race in PROFILE. If you have dialog boxes enabled, you don't even have to scroll the story window.

True, and I do that from a distance. But something like the glance I mentioned would be nice even just to tell who's in the room with you. I like knowing if I'm surrounded by dark elves. ;)
For the record, I didn't exactly come up with the idea. They have something like it in DR, but I can't quite remember how it works.

"glance race: Standing close by are Maags, a halfling, Sareyna, a human, Valkenhayn, a dark elf, Greycrown, a half-elf, and Azimar, a dark elf." -- KristenL
On the whole I agree, but rather than clutting up my reading with a bunch of commas I would do it: "Standing close by are the halfling Maags, the human Sareyna, the dark elf Valkenhayn, the half-elf Greycrown, and the dark elf Azimar." It just flows better.
