The test server is 1000x more fun than the real game!
Yay for demo teleport. If only we could zoom around without walking/traveling for an hour to get anywhere.

I believe we call that Platinum.

I've no desire to play Platinum for many reasons.

The level of tedium it takes to travel around the world and to hunting grounds, even with the world shrinkage, is excessive in today's gaming environment and GS population levels though.

I've been waiting for the Scatter to turn frosty again since the first day. If we could get a toggle somehow to get some frostborne liches, that would be great. Thanks!

I think that I have found a bug in Shield Riposte while on the test server. Shield Riposte is supposed to base its strength on your ranks in shield bash, using either the CMAN or the SHIELD skill. Based on my testing, it actually only uses the CMAN. The SHIELD skill counts as a prereq, but improving the SHIELD skill from ranks 2 to 5 has no effect.

Here's my result on Shield Riposte with 5 ranks CMAN sbash and 2 ranks of SHIELD bash:

Reacting instantly to the blow, you lash out with your black tower shield at the troll fighter!
[Roll result: 163 (open d100: 82) Penalties: 14]
Your attack connects!
A Grimswarm troll fighter is knocked off-balance!

Roughly a bonus of 80 to hit (ignoring penalties). Here's my result with 0 ranks of CMAN sbash and 2 ranks SHIELD bash:

Reacting instantly to the blow, you lash out with your black tower shield at the troll ranger!
[Roll result: 90 (open d100: 62) Penalties: 14]
Your attack connects!
The troll ranger manages to keep his footing!

Roughly a bonus of 28 to hit. It does vary a few points by target:

Reacting instantly to the blow, you lash out with your black tower shield at the troll fighter!
[Roll result: 88 (open d100: 52) Penalties: 14]
Your attack connects!
The troll fighter manages to keep her footing!

Roughly a bonus of 36 to hit.

Here's my result with 0 ranks of CMAN sbash and 5 ranks of SHIELD bash:

Reacting instantly to the blow, you lash out with your black tower shield at the troll warrior!
[Roll result: 52 (open d100: 23) Penalties: 17]
Your attack connects!
The troll warrior manages to keep his footing!

Again, roughly a bonus of 28 to hit. Penalties went up 3 points because I was encumbered, so let's call it a bonus of 31 to hit (that keeps the penalty the same).

Basically, Shield Riposte is HUGELY improved by ranks of CMAN sbash but ranks of SHIELD bash have no effect beyond the 2 minimum required to trigger it. That's not consistent with the in-game documentation.

If everything else (in particular your stance) were the same, thats a definite bug and you should BUG it in game too. Its about the right size effect for SHIELD BASH ranks not being counted at all.

It has been an absolute blast playing on the test server...

I'm sure it was an astronomical effort to get everything set up... I just hope that you guys recorded/scripted everything you did! But I'd love to see this be an annual thing... The timing of it slightly before the annual fixskills was absolutely perfect!

I was finally able to test a long-standing theory I had about The Rift, and jumping around those planes with a way under-level character is unreasonably fun.

The fastest way to Plane 5 when overhunting by 40 levels, it turns out, is to just badly fail all of the fear wardings. Works like a charm.

This is another test server bug:
A red tsark opens her mouth and spews liquid flames at you!
A red tsark hurls a roaring ball of fire at you!
AS: +309 vs DS: +376 with AvD: +57 + d100 roll: +40 = +30
A clean miss.
You exhale a virulent green mist toward a red tsark, but she is unaffected.

I've been playing around on the test server with earth lore and 917 Boil Earth. Works great on bandits. And I don't mean the easy bandits that come up most of the time. As far as I can tell it works on the few hard ones. It also does well on undead but with all my earth lore I ended up using 904 Minor Acid to good effect.

Sorry if someone already asked but it would be neat if we could ATTUNE ELEMENT at will on the test server.

That's the beauty of it. When they scare you so bad you run in a panic, it takes you straight into the Heart.

I was back on Plane 1 within about a minute, without climbing a thread. I love obscure game mechanics.

[The Rift]
A white pillar stretches up into the vast reaches of the dark sky here. On either side of the enruned
pillar are two full length mirrors, slowly rotating horizontally. One mirror is lined with a white
haon frame, the other with a black thanot one. A small pool of blood has coagulated around the white
pillar, and while something appears to be written in it, the letters are too messy to make out.

Your legs finally tire and you begin to calm down.
[The Rift]
A mass of pulsing and twitching tissue sits to the west. At first, the booming that rolls through the
air sounds like thunder, but a moment of listening proves it to be too regular and rhythmic to be a
storm. Thump-thump... thump-thump.... All at once the source comes to you, and as you gaze at the
tissue you realize it is a giant heart. Grey-green worms chew through the flesh, and listening to
the beating it becomes obvious that they are killing the heart, and whatever creature it belongs to.

I was unable to make Luukos actually destroy souls, so I guess that loophole was fixed a long time ago.

But it turns out Zelia had black knights guarding her "Lunule Weald" shrine.

Yeah, Zelia's Shrine is the elven Hotel California; the guards that get summoned when you're ganked will wander in there but can't find their way out.

I'd have reported it, but it's not a big deal and it actually feels appropriate for NPCs to lose their minds in a shrine of Zelia, so I never did.

I noticed something intriguing on the test server today. I don't think I've ever quite seen it like this in production, but I'll be watching for it. It seems the liches and masters in the Scatter can generate with wildly differing DS values.

If I generate a ranged AS (for example) of somewhere around 500, the DS for these two creature types is somewhere around 510 to 535, it seems, with the occasional spike.

If I generate a ranged AS (for example) of somewhere around 570, the DS for these two creature types is somewhere around 565 to 580, with relatively few if any spikes.

And side note: Velvette's not going to be happy about this - but the spirit gauntlet is an absolute BLAST on the test server.

By the way, someone move those poor demons out of the demon trap at the north gate? I was looking forward to taking them out.

That fear has kicked in several times for Clunk.
- Once was fighting the ghost of Anwyn (Clunk was training 20 or so, the ghost was over 90). Clunk returned and won.
- Second was fighting the dark soul at Vaalor. Clunk was less than 50. Clunk returned and won.
To this day, the dark soul remains Clunks oldest kill.
- Third was the shadow demon form of the Shadowguard leader Tiope. This one scared Clunk out of Shadowgaurd, and made him run for his life straight into the King's Court in Vaalor.
