installing and playing on Macbook 2017 with Lich HPEL! on 04/23/2019 01:24 PM CDT
Okay I've followed the guide on the wiki to the tee! I'm having errors everywhere. I just need a direct from A - B guide I think. Like every button press guide.
I've just bought this MacBook to work away from home and I'm new to Mac. I bought another sub to GS as its been a while. I've got a basic understanding of terminal now thanks to the guide. Thanks!
So.. I want to just play GS with Lich but be able to use narost etc. GTK2 is an issue here also.
So after I've run the guide and try to play I'll show you what happens..
I run ruby. ' lich/lich.rbw ' and get:
Daves-MacBook-Pro:~ davejackson$ ruby lich/lich.rbw
2019-04-23 19:14:13.506 ruby[50506:131471] * WARNING: Method userSpaceScaleFactor in class NSView is deprecated on 10.7 and later. It should not be used in new applications. Use convertRectToBacking: instead.
then the log in lich screen comes up and I log in to play, it downloads wizard, WINE comes up and it installs everything then boom error messages, no actual front end comes up.
I downloaded Avalon too btw.
The error messages say wine failed or something. its an enormous message. I can't even capture it all to post it.
SO I try another way:
sudo ruby lich/lich.rbw --gemstone --avalon
and I get this -
Daves-MacBook-Pro:~ davejackson$ sudo ruby lich/lich.rbw --gemstone --avalon
Password:
2019-04-23 19:21:40.345 ruby[50591:138100] * WARNING: Method userSpaceScaleFactor in class NSView is deprecated on 10.7 and later. It should not be used in new applications. Use convertRectToBacking: instead.
2019-04-23 19:21:40.356 ruby[50591:138100] isPrefsCreateCacheFromEnabledAndDefaultInputSources - can't find anything from GetInputSourceEnabledPrefs, use defaultASCIIKeyLayoutDict = <CFBasicHash 0x7fef80ad2f60 [0x7fff8dd718f0]>{type = mutable dict, count = 3,
entries =>
0 : <CFString 0x7fff8dddfeb8 [0x7fff8dd718f0]>{contents = "InputSourceKind"} = <CFString 0x7fff8de253f8 [0x7fff8dd718f0]>{contents = "Keyboard Layout"}
1 : <CFString 0x7fff8de11538 [0x7fff8dd718f0]>{contents = "KeyboardLayout ID"} = <CFNumber 0x31427f7db8c1928b [0x7fff8dd718f0]>{value = +2, type = kCFNumberSInt64Type}
9 : <CFString 0x7fff8dddabb8 [0x7fff8dd718f0]>{contents = "KeyboardLayout Name"} = British
}
And in case you were wondering if I start up Avalon it simply doesn't work at ALL! nothing.
I'm completely at my wits end with it all. I've tried everything I've found on all the forums and just think I need to somehow clear it all out and start again but using your steps in person or something.
if you can help, ill be here very often as I have some time off work the next few days :)
Very gratefully yours! (please help!)
Dave

oh and if I try to use Avalon alone with absolutely nothing I get ...
An error occured while attempting to connect. You'll need to quit and attempt to sign on again. If the problem persists, the game might be down or your internet connection might be disrupted.
and it did work before I started all this :(

okay restarted cpu and ran terminal and got ..
Daves-MacBook-Pro:~ davejackson$ sudo ruby lich/lich.rbw --gemstone --avalon
Password:
2019-04-23 20:45:59.953 ruby[500:5355] * WARNING: Method userSpaceScaleFactor in class NSView is deprecated on 10.7 and later. It should not be used in new applications. Use convertRectToBacking: instead.

9 : <CFString 0x7fff98386bb8 [0x7fff9831d8f0]>{contents = "KeyboardLayout Name"} = British
}
Then the window just stays there. I can't enter further terminal prompts as a curser up equals weird text instead of the previous prompt.
if I run the Lich prompt then either wizard or storefront do not work. They just do nothing.

Ok, I am going to have to send you a sorry file to use. We will have to do a bit of prep work.
Do you have access to the official discord server? I would prefer if we do this there. And heads up, very limited for the next six hours. But I am confident we can get you set up this evening. Will that work?

Quick update, sorry for kinda spamming the board a bit lately.
I’ve got access to the game finally! It’s a bit quirky on how to get in but it’s daily stable now.
I wish I could say I can help others if they’re having the same situation but I honestly have no idea what we had to do to get it to work on MacBook. It’s so odd.
The point is though, thanks Doug. You’re so amazing for putting in so much time to get me running.
Doug spent literally HOURS running me through things to get it going. Plus I’m in another time zone so I know he was helping me at odd hours on his end. It seemed like he picked me up whenever he had spare time which was really kind.
Thanks again man. If you need help Doug is your guy. I thought we were doomed after the three hour mark but we got there.
Thanks again. You’re the greatest and a credit to your craft, man.

Doug is fantastic and should be paid a billion dollars a month for all the work he puts into getting people connected to GemStone.
