The gem dealer in Wehnimer's Landing, Murdos Burdos, has received orders from multiple customers requesting a deep blue mermaid's-tear sapphire. You have been tasked to retrieve 6 of them. You can SELL them to the gem dealer as you find them.
I was always under the impression that, like many kinds of shell, this particular variety of sapphire was exclusive to Solhaven and River's Rest. I'm curious about whether cross-realm gem tasks are allowed (which makes them a bit trickier), or whether I was just wrong about mermaid's-tear sapphires.

I suppose this is a coding point on how the system works. I don't know, but I'd guess the system scans the character's level, the local realm, and gems the creatures can drop.
In that sense, the solution is to argue the large ogres are too far from the Vornavis Coast to reasonably carry gryphon wing shells, and thus they should not carry those gems. On the other hand, if, say, large ogres are double-counted for Solhaven and Landing realm considerations, it would be a problem for Solhaven tasks if someone decided to try to complete the same task assigned in Solhaven, in which case the solution is much more elusive. I'd think as a user of Planar Shift that realm boundaries should be more clearly defined with an exact cutoff, but this could result in a similar case to the above when someone doesn't know where the cutoff actually is.
Since it's on the topic, I'll state that while I like the added flavor of River's Rest (and Solhaven) shells and gems, with exceptions like this case, the end result appears roughly like doubling the types of gems that can be requested compared to the Landing. I estimate the difference is like 100 types of gems versus around 200. This can be considered as a trade-off for RR lacking escort tasks, and RR and Sol having generally fewer hunting grounds, I suppose, but it still feels a little like the shaft that I should need two 110 space lockers to have most the gems asked for bounties on hand.
I said most the gems asked, because the random shells that are too large for alchemy jars are really annoying. There's probably no clear case against that, and coding the solution is quickly parsing a database and flipping bits, so I can't see a good reason to thwart the concept.
