Realm-specific Gems and the Bounty Modifier on 03/25/2014 10:07 PM CDT

Everything I've seen from NIRs in the past, including post #821 in this topic, has indicated that realm-specific gems should not drop outside of that realm, even with the modifier in place from a gem bounty. Since the last time the system was updated, though, having a gem bounty for a realm-specific gem will cause that gem to drop even on the other side of the world. I'm just curious if this is a bug, or I mis-interpreted the announcement.

For example, Teras-specific gems dropping in the Rift yesterday:

>You focus your wandering mind, murmuring obscure words of power as you summon the magic of the Mana Disruption spell...

>Your spell is ready.

>You gesture at an enormous rift crawler.
> CS: +543 - TD: +432 + CvA: +25 + d100: +67 == +203
> Warding failed!
> Massive internal disruption.
>As the rift crawler dies, the beast's massive body curls in on itself, convulses once, and stills.
>Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

>You search the rift crawler.
>It didn't carry any silver.
>It had a firestone on it!
>It had nothing else of value.
>The rift crawler's translucent outer husk melts away, its smoky inner core disappearing in greyed ribbons on the air.

Is this working as intended?

As everyone knows, it's the gem that's known as Firestone when the Crawler meets (the end of) the road.

(OK, so I grew up watching TV commercials in the 60's; sue me.)

"So, what does that green line on the graph represent?"
"Oh, that's the projection of a hypothetical offspring from a union between Sauron and Cruella de Ville; we use that as a baseline for determining character alignment."

Interesting! I wonder if it'd work the other way around and get rift gems to drop elsewhere (which would be particularly interesting, given their unique natures).

My understanding is you can only get gems where they normally generate. The bounty modifier just makes the chances that much better for you getting that gem.

see post 965 where a firestone generates off a rift crawler.
