I heard that it's good for your bond to tell your companion to leave before logging out so I've been trying to do that. Today, when I logged in, I received a message "You feel your companion has found a place to rest and curled up for awhile."

We've only been bonded for 4 days and it's the first time I've seen that message. Tonight, I told her to leave and waited like 10 minutes but didn't get this message.

According to this guide https://sites.google.com/site/loresinging/arkati-library/animal-companion-affinity-guide it really hurts your affinity to not wait for your companion to find a place to rest. Will this happen more, the more time I spend with her?

Thank you

I never told mine to leave before I logged out, and I never had any problems bonding. The process seemed to go pretty quickly, to be honest. Just keep them with you, feed them, pet them, play with them.. It takes time to build the bond, but it'll get there! Congrats on your new friend!

You should always tell it to leave if you do anything that you want "saved" -- getting it altered, leveling up, putting on or taking off an accessory, and periodically throughout the bonding process. If the game resets, your companion will be called with the information that was stored the last time you sent it away. If you have never sent it away, it will be like you just bonded to it. Sure, you can get lucky and never have a problem. But others lose affinity, alterations, or items. It's a shame, when it's so easy to prevent.

You will only get that curled up message if the companion is not in the same room as you when you tell it to leave.

Yeah, it's a shame... that nobody has bothered to fix a goofy mechanic. You don't see me, say, checking in to the inn every time I want my character saved.
