Calling all you companion lovers!
I've been talking with some friends lately about companions, how rangers treat their companions, what they feed them, etc. I figured the best way to find out something like this would be to ask you! So! What type of companion do you have (canine, feline, etc) and what do you feed them? If you could create custom treats, with flavor messaging, what would you come up with? What would you like to see available? I know some of you are VERY particular about what you allow your little friends to eat..
Looking forward to what you have to say!

Personally, I never feed my companion -- she's a wild animal and hunts for her own food. That said, if I did feed her (maybe for the purpose of practicing falconry?), the food would simply mimic that of her natural diet. Since my companion is a peregrine, she'd get stuff like uncooked quail, dove, those sparrows she's forever dodging, etc.
I'm sure I've been completely unhelpful, but that's my perspective. Maybe something like "a chunk/piece/cube of raw quail/other_smallish_bird meat." It would be nice to have some food props available for companions, since aside from a few exceptions, existing food is created and prepared for "human" consumption.
On another note, it would be pretty cool if I could use a bow and arrow to shoot down birds which I could then pluck and prepare either raw or cooked. Kinda like fishing.

I have a cougar and he's allowed just about whatever anyone cares to offer him. However his favorite would be fresh caught fish from the local fishing spot. However, even cut down to fillets and cooked those things always seem to have a billion bites and it's either... feed him a few bites and stow it, hoping I remember which one we've started on next time so it doesn't spoil... or stand there feeding him fish for a stupidly long period of time and being all kinds of scrolly. As of last I checked, companions will not eat fish of this type - player caught and cooked - off the ground, it has to be manually fed to them. Maybe somebody could look at why that is?

Id like to see the food in the guilds, have a different style then regular food that would fit both rangers and companions, but if its to be companion specific- whole rabbits uncooked, more things like are in the Nations Ranger guild companion shop, or live mice to feed birds, treats with some spells in them would be nice (that would mean the companion and the ranger get the spells, as we taste what they eat) I know that everyone says the coding for companions is very particular, but what about treats that change fur or eye colors, like dyes. Herbal treats they can eat to heal. One of the reasons I no longer carry large amounts of food for mine is the meats get heavy fast, and spoil quickly. Maybe some Jerky treats that bundle an dont weigh you down? Treats they play with then eat them afterwards like a bird, or mole, or large crickets, dragonflies. Oddly enough every dog I have ever had likes to chase wood bees (carpenter bees) an eat them.

Captain Candy Coon munches on some pinenuts and berries.. and occasionally we share some spearmint leaf. Gotta get that raccoon breath minty fresh!
She also eats Grimswarm.. and the occasional sorcerer
I like the idea of herbal treats for them that only work on them. Adds a little extra flare when healing them
