Exactly how many MIU ranks do I need to active one of these gold-framed clear crystal lens contraptions?
And as a rogue, is there any sensible reason why I would spend the training points? Or even cast the spell?

As a class who can only go 1x in Arcane Symbols or MIU, these are really not for you. Overall success on the activation roll determine how high level a spell you can attain with Fash'lo'nae's Gift.
I wasn't really seeing satisfactory activation margins for a 1x character.
