Can someone please explain what this means?

>>The top-level restriction is calculated according to (20 - summation seed 1 of (caster's ranks/2)). For example, a caster with 50 Magic Item Use ranks waving a smooth amber wand at a target will cause it to be unable to cast spells of level 14 or higher.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info, but it still makes very little sense to me.

Generally didn't make sense to me either, at first. Hit me up @play.net or AIM dionketd and I'll walk you through examples. Within 10 minutes, you'll at least be able to get the chart, and sort through what to expect.

The math -- you're on your own. ;)

This one is a little confusing, even when you understand how the summation chart works.

Ranks Spell Level
6 18
12 17
20 16
30 15
42 14
56 13
72 12
90 11
110 10
132 9
156 8
182 7

When the caster (waver/invoker) of 1708 has the number of ranks listed in the first column, the target may not cast any spells equal to or greater than the level listed in the second column.

OK, comparing that chart with the spell description and the seed summation chart, things start to make sense. Thanks for the chart, Denil. And thanks for the offer, Doug. I e-mailed you, but it looks like it's no longer necessary. I appreciate the help.
