You don't seem to be able to move to do that.
I was under the effect of a rift crawler immobilization and had that same messaging 4 times where it said I shook off the immobilization but in fact hadn't. If I'm failing to shake it off, shouldn't it keep from saying I succeeded?

You weren't failing your attempt; it just wasn't removing the effect as it should. It should now be fixed though.
