Correct: the new WebClient doesn't use the .sal file at all. We're trying to track down the issue, but it's not terribly easy with all the different browser and OS combinations that are out there.

Doesn't work on the Nook tablet either, but then NOTHING works on the Nook tablet. Good thing I got it to read books. It tries to download the Wizard as well just like the guy who has the Thrive tablet.
Still just trying to connect with Windows XP and IE 8, although something must have changed because now it doesn't have the Gemstone big round logo thing, it just has a black screen with the words Version: Beta 3.0 and connecting....

Solomon,
Thank you (and everyone else lurking behind the scenes) for your continued efforts to bring us a WebFE that can finally, finally, finally be used on any system (i.e. MACS).
As a Mac user, I have always had to struggle with the less-than-perfect and not-scripting-capable Avalon (yes, yes, YASSE). As time has progressed and Operating Systems updated, I always felt more and more left behind as far as logging into Gemstone was concerned.
A universal FE is simply a brilliant and long-overdue idea and although it still isn't working, I just wanted to let you and everyone else toiling away to get it there know how important it is to some of us (probably a lot of us) and how much your efforts are appreciated.
Please keep it up, and I eagerly await being able to log in on equal footing with my non-Mac-using peers.

Any update on getting the Web FE to connect with an Android device? Trying to do it on 4.0.4 via both the default and also the Chrome browser still makes it try to download the Wizard login file, which it doesn't like all that much.
I know there's the little unofficial Android app still floating around (and I do have it) but its use does leave a bit to be desired (having to force close it each time for example.) Having something a little more functional for being able to log in for brief forays will be quite nice.

First of all, the new webFE is a Beta release, as the version indicator says when it is loading.
Second, we've been working on several of the issues with connectivity regarding the webFE on non-Windows machines, but when we discovered the issue, it required us to rewrite a substantial portion of the connectivity logic on the website, which was not a quick task. It will be released shortly, however (sometime this week), and that should resolve the majority of our connection issues, especially ones where a browser tries to download an SAL file when it shouldn't.
Once the new connectivity has been made live, I will post again here and we'll try to isolate any remaining issues at that time.

You may want to post in the Simutronics folder, not the Gemstone folder, so the onsite guys can see it more easily:

Any way to adjust settings for the web client?
Or is it a reflection of your current settings on stormfront for that character?
Example, disconnects, log in and log offs
Fine on a computer monitor.
Too much screen scroll on a 10" tablet screen.
also any way to repeat a previous command?, short of retyping it in again in full?
Other than that and some other concerns, I like that this is available.

I have a question about the new web browser FE. There seems to always be a 3-5 second lag before the actions I enter take effect, and I do mean always; even whan other FEs have no lag. What's up with this?
In fact I question why Simu felt the need to construct such a web browser at all. Yes, it doesn't need to be downloaded, but neither does E-scape. Sorry to say it, but E-scpe seems to have the Simu web browser FE beat hands down as far as appearance, utility and ease of use go. Among other things, I can't find any provision for constructing/using scripts on the Simu FE, although I may be missing something.

FE downloading is a significant roadblock for new player retention. If you're having trouble, I strongly suggest you post your OS and browser versions on the Simutronics board so the pertinent people get to see it and improve things.
eScape has limitations. It requires Internet Explorer, Windows and Java.
That cuts out people that use Chrome and Firefox. It also cuts out Mac, Linux and ChromeOS users. And finally there are many people that stay away from Java.

Yeah still the same, I login to the site, click go play, select my character and hit the big blue Go Play! button and it takes me to a page to download Avalon (which is different from before - it just downloaded a file before) but there's no mention of the WebFE (Or I'm totally blind. I looked really hard though). I tried in Safari (my normal browser) and also Chrome.
Mac OS X 10.7.5, Safari 6.0.1, Chrome 20.0.1132.57

I am having some evry strange things happen also. I play a lot from the library, so I can't use downloaded FEs. My FE of choice here is E-scape, for reasons mentioned already. I have 14 characters. I noticve now that for TWO of them, occasionally when I log in using e-scape, their commands/actions are not carried out, despite the fact that they appear on the screen. I have to log in using the web FE, then when I log out I can come back in using E-scape, and it works fine. This only happens with two specific characters, for no apparent logical reason. Any ideas what the heck this is due to?
Also, while the Simu web FE has provisions for using macros, I still can't find any provision for using a script. Is there a way?
