I (we, the hub and I) have never had a huge problem with gem tasks. Mind you, we keep a massive (I am not kidding here) stockpile of gems that are commonly asked for. But, in our experience we find a lot more of the assigned gem when hunting than it used to be before they amped it up.
This isn't normal!
What do you mean this isn't normal!?!
This is way worse!!

yes but for F2P the treasure rate is severely limited

As a premium player I don't have any issues with gem tasks either. I'm always happy to get them. I don't hoard gems very much because that's the sort of thing that requires using a script (or an insane amount of OCD) and I tend to not automate many activities. Nothing against it, just not something I do a lot of.
I was only speaking about my husbands experience and what he has shared with me. He has nowhere near the expectation of play that I have. It was the one negative he felt about his gaming experience so far. Not fun to get a task that is so close to impossible to complete, there is no point in even trying to complete it.

I tend to try and complete most tasks I get. That being said. Many tasks are not for everyone.
Constructs resistance to magic, most casters bypass them.
Foraging and Skiing, two more not for everyone.
Undead, many bypass those as well.
Gem tasks, I store gems myself, but some are so rare I have one or two, and I bypass them knowing it is just a time waste hunting them down.
I guess my humble experience is, not all tasks are going to be done by everyone.

Although I agree not every bounty is for every character, I don't see a huge problem here.
I'm also a known gemhoarder (actually, I did it for a long time manually, and I'm not OCD, but now I use a script).
Just the fact of there being a number of gem hoarders around you can buy the gems from would seem to compensate for low treasure drops. After all, gotta spend your money somehow if your bank account is limited to 100k!!

The Gem tasks can be quite lucrative because the drop rates of a particular gem are ramped up when you have the quest for it. High silver gems then hunt your level and above. Low silver gems you can under hunt a bit as well. Try more than one critter as well. My rule of thumb is to drop the gem quests if I hunt several of my current critters and don't see any, but typicaly in 2-3 hunts I have em all.
