I met a newcomer last night, and sat down to talk with her for a bit. (I asked first if she were really a first timer, and yes she was here via the F2P program). Always I try to help out true newbies. She asked how to highlight things, and when I started to tell her, I found out that she was, out of necessity, using the web client FE as her browser.
I was aghast! The F2P program is designed to attract and KEEP new players. If they have to work with that abomination, they will surely get turned off. I told her to download stormfront ASAP. Seriously though; at the very least, there should be a notation or something on the sign in page about different front ends being available for the game. Let the player try them and decide which one they like better. The way it is now, the newcomer has no idea SF even exists or what it does.

By design, new players are taken into the game immediately via the WebClient. Our data has very clearly shown that we lose a sizeable number of people between when they finish signing up and when they try to install the Launcher and SF, so the WebClient was created so that new players didn't have to download ANYTHING to get into the game the first time. Again, this is an intentional decision that was made and it isn't going to change, probably ever, and comes from the very top.
On subsequent visits to the website, when players go to the GO PLAY page they are shown "Other Connection Options" that they can look at and investigate at their leisure and try out other client options if they choose.

>>honestly it needs a lot of improvement, especially visually.<<
That's probably my biggest beef with the webclient. The visual field is so limited, that if there's a lot going on in the room, half of it is hidden.
