So, when I most recently rolled up a character in Plat, I mentioned it to someone I knew and they asked to see how I set up my character. After several minutes of being yelled at and ridiculed, I got a rapid-fire laundry list of changes I needed to make, peppered with comments like:

"You only need 1 rank of that per level."

"You don't need that til 20th."

"You'll never need that."

"You can't use that with your profession."

The Web Guy and I were talking today and one of the projects he's going to be working on for the hopefully near future is a new "Advanced" option for the Character Manager that takes you to the current CM, but a much simpler one for folks who are truly new to GSIV that basically asks them a few simple, basic questions and generates a character based on what kind of character they want to play.

Things like, "Do you want to Dual Wield?" or "Do you want to pick locks?" or things of that nature. Basically, "What class do you want to play?" and then "How do you want to play it?"

What I'd like to ask you all is:

1) What are the most common "build types" for each profession? This will help us come up with the questions to ask and options to offer the new folk.

2) What stat/skill configurations go best with those choices? This will help us set those new folk up with viable characters quickly and get them into the game.
