It's come to my attention that there's a rare bug in fusion arms that is causing them to begin producing "a base orb" that is functionally useless rather than clearing their socket as is appropriate. It may sound like a good thing that this bug is extremely rare (the system seems to function perfectly for most users almost all of the time) but as it's developer, let me say that it's extremely frustrating instead. Not having any duplicability makes this bug mind-bendingly hard to track down, as no test cases have produced bad results.
I'm posting for a couple of reasons.
First, anyone who has experienced this bug and who can recount exactly when their fusion arm began behaving strangely (i.e. what you did to break it) will be awarded exactly one hug. There will also be cake. You can send me an e-mail at gs4-auchand@play.net.
Second, I'm going to be rolling in some symptom fixes over the next few days that should eliminate the base orbs (because really, fusion arms should not be creating these even if they are mucked with at the item level in a way that breaks them) and the orbs themselves should explode violenty--er, disappear--if interacted with.

Fusion Bug -- Your Help Needed! on 04/27/2011 09:38 AM CDT
Re: Fusion Bug -- Your Help Needed! on 04/27/2011 05:32 PM CDT
I've rolled in some symptom fixes for the errors we've seen in Fusion Arms.
The problem in a nutshell is that three players have reported a case wherein their Fusion Armor is not properly clearing an enhancive slot when an orb has been pried out. Instead, the slot stays active with no enhancive on it, and "a base orb" can be pried out of it indefinitely.
These fixes should cause all base orbs to disintegrate if interacted with in any way. They will also make it so that no fusion orbs that are built incorrectly (i.e. created manually and wrong, as opposed to being built through the automated system, which has checks against creating bad orbs) can be placed into armor. In addition, I'll be notified of failed interactions with orbs or arms so I can follow up with you.
I would like to say that this will prevent future problems, but it's just a step down the road. Unfortunately, in the seven months since their release, we've only seen this bug crop up three times. This makes it unlikely that we'll be able to easily duplicate the exact causes of it. If you experience a bug with your fusion arms, please let me know ASAP by contacting me at gs4-auchand@play.net.
Since this fix is new, please also let us know immediately if anything behaves out of the ordinary. I've vetted it pretty thoroughly, but there's that old saying about the best laid plans of mice and men. I consider it a motto.
