I have absolutely no idea if this is something that may already exist or not, but if it doesnt I have a suggestion for the process of selecting town guru's. First i want to state I am not suggesting this out of any flaws with any current guru, but it some time ago came to mind, and I never posted it.

I think it would be a good idea that as the final step of anyone becoming a town guru, they should put in something like 50 hours of game time playing some form of character they know the least about in all 5 of the title ranges. that time put in should be at least 2/3 hunting, with some requirement to hunt both solo and in a group.. the other 1/3 in town just watching listening or getting and giving services.

.. why?

Because sometimes although I am sure almost all the gms at some point or another have played characters and still do. I am sure they already have to be pretty well versed in the game to start with, but it doesn't mean the appointing person xxxxx to take over a town is up to date on that particular town at the moment

and at least myself.. If I ever were to take a job like that I would want as much insight into the community as I could get before having to take on the burden. I think it would be a good tool to acclimate anyone. I can think of a few other good reasons also. However as GMs are volunteers and there time is valuable, I can also see where some would think the same can be done after taking over in there normal duties. IF nothing else its like a unannounced trial period like the free trail subs but for Gurus.

But it may well be something along these lines already exists.

Former town guru here....of the most awesome town there is, but that's not important at the moment.

I think gurus who have a good to intimate knowledge of their towns is a very good requirement for the job. Should it be a requirement? I'll say no because I think enthusiasm for the job can make up for that lack of knowledge, and it generally leads to the guru gaining that knowledge in the course of business.

When I was signing off, I left EXTREMELY detailed notes about the Rest from the absence of rosemarrow potions to the willow tree to the history behind the stone chair near the Marsh Keep. I think it'd be great to have that type of resource for every town and every guru, but a town could lose out on an energetic and enthusiastic guru if a preliminary requirement of so many hours was one of such experience.
