It's an update for a weapon type, not an actual upgrade to the flavor/flares or anything. You'll see soon, but it won't affect any currently out there.

I don't suppose there's any discussion going on about any other changes to greater black ora? There've been some really good suggestions on the forums about it. At the very least- maybe removing the built-in block on 1604? There's clearly something in the script to specifically prevent it, and it'd be great for it to have parity with other script-based flares like Blink.

Being able to Consecrate black ora seems kinda weird...

When you use 1625 on it, it's technically sanctified.

Plus, consecration for, say, Sheru, is going to look very different from consecration for Lorminstra

Agreed the consecration ceremonies may be differ in flavor between Liabo, Lornon, and Neutral Arkati. I'd even go so far as to say they can be drastically different between followers of different arkati within the same pantheon. But that said, black ora is still a cursed/undesirable material (at least for most people). Cursed/undesirable is not equal to evil/Lornon. Black ora is pantheon agnostic (sort of like dog poop for lack of a better example).

Sure you can consecrate dog poop if you really want to, but most people wouldn't want to because... dog poop. That's not to say that some people can't or won't still run around waving it at critters but let's not argue that because something is generally undesirable (e.g. cursed, dog poop) that makes it a good candidate to be a holy item for Lornon aligned characters. A paladin of Sheru wielding black ora makes about as much sense to me as a paladin of Lorminstra wielding black ora. Either CAN do it but generally neither one would.

I would love to see more Arkati specific implementations in the game but I'd rather go the route of doing just that, making things more Arkati specific for each Arkati. I don't agree that white ora = Liabo/black ora = Lornon is a good compromise approach to accomplishing this.

Staying more on topic. Black ora is an interesting material in it's own right and I look forward to seeing what new changes are in store!

Official documentation expressly states that dark clerics make use of black ora. Likewise, when bonding via 1625 true black ora weapons are sanctified. If a paladin assesses such a weapon, it clearly tells you as much.

So all signs clearly point to Black Ora as being something of value to the followers of Lornon Arkati. And, as such, there's no real in-game reason why consecrate flares wouldn't trigger when a Paladin uses 1625 to bond to the weapon. (Though I'd argue that it should probably only occur when followers of Lornon Arkati do the bonding)

And mechanically, given that true black ora is a script- there's no reason why guiding light flares should be blocked provided that particular weapon still has the special properties slot open. If you get them with Blink Weapons, Poleaxe weapons, knockout flaring weapons, etc. then it should also happen with true black ora.

True Black Ora has flares and I don't think you can consecrate or sanctify them. The same goes for White Ora because they have plasma flares already. That or I don't know how to do it :)

It's not about the presence of flares, it's about where the flares "sit", so to speak. Most flares fall under the common or uncommon variety, and they take up the same slot that 1604 takes up. So if you have standard fire flares or plasma flares, for example, then 1604 doesn't work. Same goes for weighting.

But there are some rare flares that actually sit in the script slot, not the standard flare/weighting slot that 1604 uses. Blink Flares, for example. If you 1625 bond to a blink weapon, you'll still get the 1604 flares (provided there's nothing else going on with that weapon). Knockout flares are the same, and so are the black ora disruption-ish flares. The whole greater black ora "thing" is a script that sits in the script slot.

Iasha Weapons (which I think are the others you are referring to) take up a script slot as well, but their plasma flares sit in the script/weighting slot. Which is why you can't get 1604 flares to work on them.

It's sort of an irony- Iasha and true black ora are the ultimate RP weapons for Paladins. But their mechanical limitations make them subpar to a standard sanctified weapon.

Thanks for the clear answer. That was mostly my findings, but the black ora inquiry cast some doubt. I have a true white ora so the 5x and plasma flares are rather meaty really.
