Hi everybody! No shenanigans today because there is a LOT to cover. I promise we can have shenanigans later if you want. :)

== MECHANICS ==

- Minor Acid (904) and Major Acid (1710) now have their DFs increased similar to 901/910, using Elemental Lore, Earth and Elemental Lore, Water.
- Minor Steam (1707) now has its DF increased similar to 901/910, using Elemental Lore, Fire and Elemental Lore, Water.
-- This means the increase is .001 per two ranks for the first 100 ranks and .001 per four ranks for ranks 101 to 200.

- Tonis Bolt (505) no longer subtracts the first 20 ranks of air lore from its DF increase calculation. It's been standardized to how other DF increases work.

- Disintegrating Bolt (705) now has its DF increased by Sorcerous Lore, Necromancy.
-- The increase is .001 per rank for the first 50 ranks, .001 per two ranks for ranks 51 - 100 and .001 per four ranks for ranks greater than 100.

- Web Bolt (118) now has its DF increased by Spiritual Lore, Summoning.
-- The increase is .001 per rank for the first 50 ranks, .001 per two ranks for ranks 51 - 100 and .001 per four ranks for ranks greater than 100.

- Holy Bolt (306) now has its DF increased by Spirital Lore, Religion when the target is undead.
-- The increase is .001 per rank for the first 50 ranks, .001 per two ranks for ranks 51 - 100 and .001 per four ranks for ranks greater than 100.

Does 705 DF improve with necromancy? That would make sense. Though it does already get some other lore benefits, I don't think the DF boost would overpower it.

I realize asking for more improvements on sorcerer spells after Hot Sorcerer Nights will be met with a resounding BOO/HISS, but this makes sense. Either Demon Lore (which could use some love after the huge necro lore boost) or Necro Lore would make sense both for the bolt version and for the warding version.

Some clarification questions:

1. Is that only for the bolt version of 705, or both bolt and CS version?
1a. If it also improves for the CS version, how does that work?

2. I assume the bolt version follows the standard DF progression?

Only Disintegrating Bolt, using the same lore progression as other bolts.

Minor cold (1709),is still missing lore DF improvements. I'm guessing nobody uses 512 with water lore then. One of my water mages used to use it against Storm Giants, yeah 906 would have been better but I was trying to stick to RP.

This probably a bridge too far (aka asking too much), but any chance of having DF increases for web bolt (118, bolt version)? I understand that Summoning Lore increases the web chance from the bolt version; it would be cool if a lore (Summoning, or Religious, or Blessing) increased the DF as well.

...then following that same logic, can Bards expect single-target Disrupt to no longer discount the first 15 ranks of Mental Lore:Manipulation from the damage adder?

Checking the wiki, it doesn't look like the 15 ranks are subtracted, at least in the example. It does appear that you still need 75 ranks to get instrument bonus single target, which is still in line with the penalty only applying to unlocking, rather than damage.

Solli told us that the first 15 ranks were "used up" to get the single-target version; that's why the damage increase runs from 16-75 (== 60 ranks' of damage adder).

Fundamentally, that's exactly the same as Tonis Bolt.

Since we're talking about the single-target version--same as Tonis Bolt--then it should work the same way for the damage.

After updating the Bolt Spell page on the wiki I did notice that 118 was the only dogie on the list. Poor little dogie.

Yeah! Thanks! You provided the answers I've been looking for and with the old DF application to Tonis - it becomes a fugly equation in excel to get the DF to calculate correctly. This makes things so much easier.

Actually, Disrupt is overpowered.

I'd be delighted to only have to train 60 ranks (total) in ML:Manipulation, rather than 75 to get the full benefit.

Banshee's Wail/1008 needs <something> to distinguish it from the "nearly-as-expensive-but-not-nearly-so-dangerous" version of single-target Disrupt.
(Although I understand and agree with those who use it for the "make you vomit & fall down" disabler that eventually puts the beasties on the ground, semi-reliably.)

Short version: accurate as they may be, none of those are relevant to the conversation asking for same-treatment of 'Unlock Ability' ranks of Lore.

Thanks, Konacon, that's...rather awesome!

As a side note, this change plus the 705 bolt change, combined with 713 and 111 (not changed, just listing them as other potential sorcerer bolts/balls) makes a sorcerer bolts only (as opposed to CS casting) definitely viable.

I am curious why this has to be for undead only. This feels unnecessary, and arbitrary. The spell can be cast on non-undead targets.

Isn't it just minor water when cast on non-undead?

The way I would justify it is that the Religion Lore makes it even more holy. If I'm undead, super-holy water is worse for me than plain old holy water. If I'm not undead, its just a (damaging) splash of water, no matter how holy it is.

Makes sense to me, and I'm certainly not a GM cheerleader.

A good compromise (though probably not all that useful to Clerics) would be to have Elemental Lore: Water raise the DFs on Holy Bolt when used on the living.
