While this isn't really a topic that concerns me directly, as I use #'s typically, I would just like to point out that I thought this was a very well written, and very eloquent request. If this were something I could work on, I would, just due to the sheer politeness of the request.

So, with that in mind

While I definitely prefer to use numbers or macros, I don't think having someone look at these is a bad idea. I've definitely seen a couple rough ones.

I personally use the mnemonics in a macro without the /r for town-illegal spells so I have a second chance to abort.

1. Can we make Grasp of the Grave simply "grasp"?
2. Can we make Cone of Elements "coneelem"?
3. Can we, over the course of time, review some of the more cumbersome or odd mnemonics?

1. Grasp of Grave's (709) mnemonic is now "grasp".
2. Cone of Elements's (518) mnemonic is now "coneelem".
3. If there are any others you think could be updated to be more useful, just let us know.

Also, just as a note in case some players are not aware, you can also fully type out the spell name to prepare it. e.g. "prepare cone of elements" The mnemonics are a lot quicker (almost as quick as the spell #! :P), but the full name is a good fallback option if you forget the former.

Fantastic, thank you so much! Since you offered, I will definitely start compiling a list of the more troublesome mnemonics. If you're willing to look at them, I'm certainly willing to help. :)

PS: I'm sure you meant quicker than spell numbers. :P

Not to step on Arietta's toes but I would probably change 410 to ewave and 435 to majorewave.

I can't think of the last time I heard someone call the spells "elemental blade" or "elemental strike" or such; "eblade", "eblast"...

Likewise, who actually says "elemental detect"?

So.

Spell ### Mnemonic Suggested

Elemental Detection 405 elemdetect detect
Elemental Blast 409 elemblast eblast
Elemental Wave 410 elemwave ewave
Elemental Blade 411 elemblade eblade
Elemental Strike 415 elemstrike estrike
Major Elemental Wave 435 majrwave majorewave

I would mention Dispel/417/elemdispel, but that actually makes sense because there is now one in the Spirit list, too. <shrug>

But I have NEVER heard of 'detect' being called 'elemental detection', and never hear anyone talking about how they use 'elemental strike' as an attack spell. Detect and EStrike are what get mentioned.

How about mjwave for Major E-Wave? mwave might be too easy to accidentally use, but mjwave would work well without that risk.

Instead of changing mnemonics, why not just add additional alternative mnemonics? Spell 518, for example, could be "coneele" or "coneofelements" or just "cone."

I must be some sort of mutant. I hate the Mnemonics, I can never remember which one aligns to which spell, but the numbers are second nature.

And I'm exactly the opposite: I couldn't remember a number to save my life--there's like 25 of the things! In each list!--but something with a name makes sense.

Also, as I've pointed out many a time over the years, there is NO possibility of racking up millions in jail fines for a missed keystroke when you use "elemtarg" and "meteors"... versus "425" and "525".

The only issue I have with shortening "elem" to "e" is consistency. If we do it for some spells, we should make that the "standard". Right now, "elem" is the standard. Because so many spells already use "elem", I'm a really nervous about making so many changes at once. To expand upon your chart....

Spell ### Mnemonic Suggested

Elemental Defense I 401 elemdef1 edef1
Elemental Detection 405 elemdetect detect
Elemental Defense II 406 elemdef2 edef2
Elemental Blast 409 elemblast eblast
Elemental Wave 410 elemwave ewave
Elemental Blade 411 elemblade eblade
Elemental Saturation 413 elemsat esat
Elemental Defense III 414 elemdef3 edef3
Elemental Strike 415 elemstrike estrike
Mass Elemental Defense 419 massedef _no change_
Elemental Targeting 425 elemtarg etarg
Elemental Barrier 430 elembarr ebarr
Major Elemental Wave 435 majrwave majorwave

As you can see, that would be a lot of changes, just in the minor elementals alone! That's to say nothing about the major elementals, which also use "elem" as standard. So as much as I honestly like the suggestions...I personally would prefer consistency across the board. I think we're better off sticking with "elem".
