Can bards not get their songs stripped as soon as they enter the pool going into the rift. Im fine with not being able to renew spells while under water but its no fun to be the only profession that can't go into the rift self spelled and have to respell as soon as I get to the sands.

there are plenty of places in elanthia that allow you to be underwater and keep your spells as long as you do not renew while actually swimming or underwater. Well I can think of two off the top of my head at least. Nelemar and the lake leading to OTF barrier. Both are like level hunting grounds.
