<< As a next step and in consultation with the Secretary of Defense and the military chain of command, I have also decided to reverse a long-standing policy of not sending condolence letters to the families of service members who commit suicide while deployed to a combat zone. >>

Good change?

Based solely on a Keanu Reeves movie (Constantine), I understood that the church considers suicide to be a sin that cannot be forgiven. As in so many other areas, I believe the church is wrong.

I assume the change is not retroactive. More than 1,000 U.S. soldiers committed suicide during Bush's reign.
