From the description of a new Gallup poll:
<< Though the vast majority of Americans say they would vote for their party's nominee for president in 2012 if that person happens to be a Mormon, 22% say they would not, a figure largely unchanged since 1967. >>

I expect some of the other Republican presidential candidates to begin pushing the issue of Romney's religion, and I expect them to do so quietly, anonymously and suggestively. Rick Santorum has a new ad released that concludes that John Huntsman, the other Mormon running for the Republican nomination, is "just like Romney." The ad ostensibly is about abortion, but I think it is also designed to remind the viewer that Huntsman and Romney share the same faith.
Questioning a candidate's religion is nothing new, of course. In 2008 Fox News relentlessly questioned Obama's faith.

Herman Cain explicitly raised the issue of Romney's religion in an interview with the Washington Times, saying that Romney could not win the South because Romney hasn't done a good enough job explaining his religion. It doesn't bother me, Cain said, but other people will be upset by it.[1]
In other religion news, Cain said yesterday on Fox News that local governments should have the power to ban Muslim mosques in their communities.[2]
