Ranger TD's on 08/04/2013 06:42 PM CDT
I am attempting to adjust and decide how I wish to train my post 50 spell traings and have a question. From a purely Defensive point that considers spell ranks, lores, etc, assuming you have all the spells available in the Ranger circle and Minor spirits, training in which circle is going to raise you TD against other spirit based spells cast at you.
For example, Defending against sorcery, cleric,or empath spells from grimswarms, or critters that use them. Also spells like stone fist, emolation, pall of silence, etc. Obviously I understand training in ranger spells aids in td against other Ranger spells, but I am not clear on how my training defines my TD against things like a grimswarm using voids, implosion, whatever that spell is that rips out your spine, when you get silenced, etc.

Both the ranger spells and MnS spells provide spirit TD. This counts full against spells from the spirit sphere (including Ranger spells), half against spells from other spheres, or 75% if the spell is a hybrid between spirit and another sphere.
e.g. 120 gives 20 spirit TD, so wearing it improves your TD by 20 against Bind (spirit spell) 15 against Pain (spirit-elemental hybrid) and 10 against Immolate (elemental).
If you have 120 there's no extra TD to be had from MnS spell ranks and I don't think there's any extra to be had after 650 in Ranger spells. Lore can give some boosts. Use aspect of the owl if you are desperate for a bit of extra TD (it enhances the TD stats for spirit and elemental magic, though not mental magic but there's hardly any of that about).

Thanks for the reply, I guess what I am not understanding is why my TD varies so much when I see spirit spells cast at me, if both Ranger and Minor Spirit spell ranks provide equal increases in TD. Ill have to test it again to be sure, but I don't think my TD against bind is the same as it is against web (in the non bolt form), or calm.
But, are you saying my TD wont increase any with continued training in MnS spells after reaching 140? or Ranger spells after reaching 650? that would mean only my CS increases with each rank?

Stone fist and immolation aren't spiritual spells.

Yeah, you're not going to get any more TD past ranks 120 and 650. Nothing is going to scale up with more ranks past those points. You do continue to gain CS though, along with many other benefits.

Another reason for seeing different TDs against spirit spells is that some of them have TD pushdowns of varying degree. I am not sure which all off the top of my head do but there are several, I know web is one of those it has a pushdown of 25.

Actually, it is that continued training in spirit spells beyond 120 won't increase your spirit TD. And in ranger spells 650 only helps by raising the stats that add to TD. Other then that the only way to increase your TD is with blessing lore. TD issues is one reason why quite a few of the higher level rangers get into heavier armor, having that lower CvA has the same net affect as improving your TD.
It also sounds like you are hunting grimswarm a lot, I'd suggest getting as many outside spells as you can for doing that.
