Just an idea here. Shadow Mastery has a timer and a Recovery timer with the Spell Active command. How hard
would it be to do the same thing for Assume Aspect?

+1 on this request from me. I use the shadow mastery timer regularly and just haven't learned assume aspect yet but will want it when I get there!

You know...I still have yet to find a use for assume aspect which is a shame for a 50 spell slot. What do people use that spell for?

While climbing trees during the quest at RtCF one of our group members used assume aspect and the messaging was certainly new to me, not having been one I'd seen in action. I was thoroughly impressed that he new his spells well enough to think of aspect of the Spider for tree climbing, before tackling the first tree at that.

Best non combat use for the spell I've seen. Naturally for any of the stat boosting ones there are applications. For archers, Lion has use if it can get to to the next rt threshold.

As an archer I use it constantly when fighting, especially against the Taladorians. I begin with assume wolf and alternate that with assume jackal. Every once in awhile I'll also use assume lion.

Let's go down the list.

Wolf:
Increase ranged AS; influence DEX, INT related rolls.

Jackal:
I never use it, though you can probably alternate this with Wolf to keep your ranged AS up slightly.

Lion:
Increase melee AS; influence STR related combat factors such as RT, encumbrance, carrying capacity

Panther:
I use this sometimes if I want to make extra sure PCs don't see me. I wouldn't bother with this one for hunting, but it would certainly help if you needed a little extra to hide from something more reliably.

Owl:
Most useful aspect. +3 (depending on lore bonuses) spirit on the first use, +1 for each consecutive use within ten minutes of the first use. Increases CS and TD per your WIS and AUR bonus, which is pretty damn dramatic. Functionally, you can use it to negate the spirit loss caused by entering the rift.

Hawk:
Straight perception bonus. Pretty obvious use here.

Rat:
DS bonus per your AGI bonus. Influence AGI and DIS rolls (I think 614 uses DIS, and maybe 620, see spell docs)

Porcupine:
On par with Owl. Adds to block percentage of 640 (you should use this before burgee/serpent/mantis in 99% of situations). Can be used to slightly increase experience pool and experience absorption (benefit is much more visible during RPAs and Gifts).

Boar:
I've never used it, but you could if you wanted to increase your carrying capacity, or regen some health quickly.

Serpent/Burgee/Mantis:
Obvious benefit. Use to best compliment the hunting strategy you use.

Yierka:
Very useful to lower the RT of eating herbs and foraging. Also makes foraging easier. Compliment with 603 and impress your friends.

Spider:
Use for particularly difficult climbs, like in the shortcut between Vaalor and Illistim.

Oh, and the feature shifting ability is fantastic for RP related stuff.

Also, you can combine the feature shifting with the Eye Spy spell for fun and cool results.

Assume Wolf gives me a +15 to my ranged AS, and Assume Jackal gives me a +7 to my ranged AS at cap with 52 ranger spell ranks.

When I was hurling more often, I alternated Wolf and Lion, but currently (while rebuilding my hurl ranks), I alternate Wolf and Jackal. Everything else, Brian already mentioned in previous response.

If only I had the mana to keep it up all the time I would love it but man is it a mana hog. Can't keep up 140 and 650! Can you keep both up at cap with mana to spare for everything else?

With 101 ranks each of HP and SMC, you can gain back 60 mana off-node per pulse. If you stay at 24 ranks of SMC, you'll get 52 mana off-node.

WoF costs 27 mana/min
AA costs 15 mana/min (averaged over the entire duration of the spell)
Total: 42 mana/min

Pulse comes ~2 mins

You lose 24 mana/pulse just running those two spells. So, you can certainly keep both these spells up for a while, but every additional spell you cast (604/610/615/616/635) is going to quickly drain you.

Fortunately, you won't need to run 140 at all (I never bothered learning the spell). Rangers never really struggle with melee DS (or bolt DS if you have a shield) issues very often, if at all.

I am an archer, and to be honest at this point I dont use my bow much hunting, just hold it, go defensive use 102, assume, and 140. If I run out of mana then I fall back to the bow.

Yes you can use both, and yes keep them up. However you have to make use of the noncombat time and not try to keep assume something up constantly. The base spell lasts 10 minutes, I cast the spell, but do not actually ASSUME anything until I see the first critter, and make sure I really need it.

I stagger casting wof and assume by about a minute so that a pulse always comes in between the two

Well I better grab some more mana control and stuff once I hit cap. 9 more levels to go! I want to load up on everything that will keep me sniping for days.

You know the math if I grab a 2nd control how much that would eventually get my regen up to?

If you want to generate mana as a ranger, optimize him for GoS's Sigil of Power

Harness Power......................| 302 202
Spirit Mana Control................| 201 101
Elemental Mana Control.............| 25 5

Maximum Mana Points: 405
Mana obtained off node: 71 (76 with concentration)
Mana obtained on node: 112 (117 with concentration)

Physical Fitness...................| 302 202
Stamina points: 163

Stamina regen rate with +46 worth of stamina recovery enhancives = 120 per minute, or 240 per mana pulse

Stamina recovery, stamina recovery, stamina recovery. With the above setup, I get about 175 or more mana per pulse, in the field. I keep all my sigils up constantly. No AS penalty from spirit drain, either.
