Is 1209 supposed to flare when you punch, jab, etc or does the flaring referred to in the spell's description refer to flares from whatever flaring equipment we might have on?

I ask because I've had this spell for a while now and haven't noticed it flare at all...

As you strike, a deep golden light surrounds your hands!

That's the messaging for the 'flare'. It significantly lowers the creature's UDF.

Hhhmmm... I don't recall seeing that messaging. Though, I am usually more focused on picking out tiering up opportunities and keeping an eye out for other critters entering the room so it's possible my eyes just passed right over it.

I'll have to highlight it so I make sure I notice it. Just scrolling up and looking at the last hunt, it's not anywhere to be seen, so I'm guessing it's not a common occurrence.

Thanks for the messaging.

Magical creatures only.

You attempt to punch a hobgoblin shaman!
You have decent positioning against a hobgoblin shaman.
UAF: 207 vs UDF: 68 = 2.000 (capped) * MM: 108 + d100: 16 = 232
... and hit for 56 points of damage!
Wild swing heavily impacts right forearm, fracturing the bone!
The hobgoblin shaman is stunned!

Spinning backfist bruises internal organs.
The hobgoblin shaman screams up at the heavens, then collapses and dies.
The deep blue glow leaves a hobgoblin shaman.
The dim aura fades from around a hobgoblin shaman.

I did a little testing and a ballpark flare rate appears to be ~20%, but the sample size is not large enough for a high degree of confidence with that value. It may be 1 per 6 strikes rather than 1 per 5. I don't know if there are other factors that might affect the rate.

Also, the magic does not have to be self-cast. I could induce the flare by casting a DS spell on the creature. I'm guessing that any spell that increases UDF will activate the flare. I.e., Spirit Warding I (101) +10 TD does not activate the flare since it doesn't increase UDF but Foresight (1204) +10 DS does.
