Hey guys. I really enjoy the RP ideal of my Paladin, he used to be a warrior and I converted him when the profession was enabled.

I guess my problem is this. With the warrior, there was always things to do and the combat itself felt fun and diverse. I was a Voln brawler trained in edged, so I could bring out a katar for variation, Voln Fu when I felt like it, or swing a falchion/OHE around when I felt the need.

This was, obviously, years ago, so maybe things felt more fun then than they do now. But with my Paladin, my playstyle is so... "pigeon"-holed, that I'm looking for ways to try to diversify my playstyle. What can I do to make combat and the profession in general a little more... open ended?

My hands are tied on training, but maybe someone can chime in on what works for them. Here's where I'm at right now.

I've used my fixskills up for some tweaking a few months ago, but I have enough bounty points for a fixskills potion.

I've been considering two handed weapons or polearms. Hunting self spelled, shield or not, has a high rate of death (the plate saves me more than spells). I have access to a wizard/empath for full spell ups, so it's no big deal really DS wise.

I'd just hate to change my sword/board as they are both 6x, altered, and the falchion is perfectly forged. Put a lot into them, I guess.

But... I'm so bored. It's literally just tank/spank. I don't have enough TPs to train in anything but core abilities... No room for "fun" I guess.

I hunt seekers/etc on the mountain in pinefar. I will need to move for my mid-late 50s to new hunting grounds (which may itself be the spark of interest I need).

Any thoughts?

Honestly?

We do two things very well: hit and take hits well. You need to cap and start using post-cap TP's for your fun.

Other than the obvious switching up weapon styles, or sticking some points into AS/MIU to be abit more magical, Paladins have very little room for diversification without seriously affecting their two strengths. Sure, you could go crazy and do all sorts of weird things to your training plan.... but in my experience Paladins have a much harder time with mutant builds than other Semi's. Not to mention some builds are essentially impossible. Plus, I don't know about you, but I play GS for fun. After a certain point, trying to hard to make a build work is tedious and no fun at all.

Yeah I realize this. I suppose I'm ultimately asking if the grass is greener on the polearm/THW side of the fence?

The sword/board is nice, I can hit things with my AS quite easily, but they hits aren't always massive or destructive. For Paladins, is the shield really worth hanging onto? Have you extensively tried both?

Since we're so offensive and in plate anyway with easier ways out of stuns/prones, I've been contemplating going for more boom boom and less turtle.

Since I can't reasonably train in more than one weapon skill...

Dump lores and place it all in mstrike. You can get the lores close to, or post-cap.

It's really awesome for crowd control.

I believe the shield is worth it. With Shield Bash and an eonake shield, it's fun for the whole family when you can kill a minotaur magus with a flare.

I'm training my pally in ohe, shield and thw. I've got to single cman's to do it, but so far (level 58) I haven't noticed any real downside to that and the fun factor is worth it.
