I am considering having my ranger join GOS and was wondering if folks thought my current training would be viable as a warcamp hunting build. I don't plan on switching to a stealth build and am concerned about surviving warcamp swarms in the open. Any thoughts on the viability of an open ranged ranger in warcamps or survivability improvements to the below training plan would be appreciated. At present, I am planning on staying in brigandine armor and going heavy on spells. I hunt using a dual light crossbow.

At your level, you can spell tank and be fine. I think you'll find that the crossbow, even as a dual, is a serious hindrance. Invest in a bunch of haste imbeds as well, and when you get your companion, make good use of the guard command. Between 610, 612, and 615, you have plenty of crowd control, so make good use of it. Some summoning lore makes those spells a bit more useful.

I agree with most of Nuadjha's post.
To be honest you can do pretty much what you want. It is pretty hard to mess up a ranger.
IMO:
Unless you are doing the crossbow for RP purposes.. Get yourself a bow. With the haste amulets you can stand toe to toe with the grim and shoot them to death with 1 sec RT.
And when your aim is more accurate. 1 sec aimed eye shots are quite nice.
I don't bring my companion into the warcamp. Unless things have changed, it was a little wonky. I once razed my warcamp and my companion almost didn't make it out in time.
Normally my animal companion would sit at the entrance of the camp as a marker telling folks someone was in there.
My ranger used to hide and stalk. Personally, I find that mechanic in warcamps cumbersome.
Combat Maneuvers: You really don't need to worry about those until much later. My ranger didn't start training in them until level 50/60. Grimswarm don't disarm.
You mentioned Brig. If I were you, I would still train to chain if not agumented chain. You will really like the protection you will get from that armor. The hinderence isn't that terrible. You get a better CvA. I know Droit, who has 202 spell ranks wears at least augmented chain if not Hauberk.
Summoning lores at this low level. They are nice but not needed at that level.
Get 640.
You will develop your own style when hunting warcamps.
