I'm planning to roll up a half-elf sniper in the near future and I'm looking for some training advice. The character is intended to be a street urchin who hunts and steals to live, so I'd like them to be proficient in locksmithing and pickpocketing.
I plan on ambush TWC'ing OHE for the first levels until the 30 days are done, and then switching over to a sniper build for life.
Here are my planned stats for the 30 days:
STR: 70
CON: 87
DEX: 80
AGL: 76
DIS: 59
AUR: 70
LOG: 70
INT: 58
WIS: 59
INF: 31
This is the training plan I have in mind for after the first 30 days.
1x armor
2x ranged
1x CM
2x ambush
2x PF
2x dodge
2x disarm
2x lockpicking
3x stalking and hiding
2x perception
2x pickpocketing
Climbing, swimming, arcane symbols, harness power and spells up to 404 when possible
What would be a good training plan for the initial ambush TWC with OHE? What about stats for the rest of the character's life? I plan on this character to be very RP-intensive, but I would like to be able to hunt well.
I've actually never played a locksmith or thief, so any help on how to do that would also be appreciated!

I'm not sure how fast half-elf stats grow, but I'd drop CON down to around 70 and distribute the points between STR and DIS before your 30 days are over.
Every +10 to your STR bonus will reduce your firing RT by 1 second. This might not seem like a lot, but you have to remember that once you actually start sniping you'll be adding 2 seconds to your RT (1 second for firing from hiding and 1 second for aiming your shots). This can be somewhat mitigated by using a smaller bow and/or stocking up on white crystals, but if your intention is to be using a longbow you'll want that STR bonus to be as high as possible.
DIS I'd put higher because it factors into S&H and well help you hide better until you get Shadow Mastery and Armor Stealth
Your training for a sniper looks sound. It's pretty much the same as mine except I was 3x in disarm, picking, and perception until I cut back on them a level ago to start working towards 404. I can't see any other difference so you must have quite a few points left over each level, meaning you'll get 404 sooner then me. I'd recommend getting 10 ranks in AS before getting spells so you can reliably cast 403 and 404 off scrolls until you learn the spells though (it'll also help when disarming scarabs).

With 3x in picking skills I was picking all my own boxes by level 15 or so and 10 levels above my level not soon after. It'll take you a bit longer since you're only going to 2x in them and you won't be picking many boxes above your level without 403 and 404.
When you first start picking, do it with your own boxes in a safe spot outside of town. That way you won't have to worry about paying fines or apologizing for killing/maiming others when you miss a trap (and you will). Once you have a good feel for your skills and go a while without failing to spot a trap, you can move your picking into town. Keep in mind that creature level is only a rough guide for lock/trap difficulty, some critters drop boxes with an average difficulty that's well above what other critters of the same level drop... either due to lower hunting pressures or because they were designed to drop tougher boxes (moor witches and the critters in the citadel in RR are two examples).
<or thief>
You're on your own with that one for the most part, but I will say that the GOOD thieves in GS are the ones that know how make the players around them enjoy themselves even when the characters are upset. Don't just sit in a resting spot and STEAL Somerandomdude... LEAN against the person you're stealing from, SMILE innocently, etc. Heck, if you're doing it right, you don't ever need to use the STEAL verb to get a reputation as a thief (I do and I've RARELY ever stolen).
Starchitin
A severed gnomish hand crawls in on its fingertips and makes a rude gesture before quickly decaying and rotting into dust. A gust of wind quickly scatters the dust.
(extra hint: if you become a citizen of RR, you can "whistle a carefree tune, the perfect picture of innocence")
