that branding iron of bloodsnake is a neat item that will cause a bleeder to STOP bleeding, the wound will remain as rank 2 or 3. I also found that if you are branded on a neck bleeder and take a minor on that location, the bleeding resumes. Quite a neat item as it has an ability to stem the flow of blood without use of herb or other powers.

It is old world medicine to prevent infection and stop bleeding on major wounds like a severed limb. I wouldn't doubt it could still be used in war time situations even today.
