HURL has been updated to let you HURL without specifying the target.

Players who HURL their weapons at inanimate objects will no longer be disarmed.

Nice!

I cannot tell you how frustrating the lack of auto targeting for Hurl was.

Thank you so much!

Hurl is one of those skills I would absolutely love to train in. However I once hurled my claidhmore into another room by mistake and had to change my trousers! Luckily, and surprisingly, it flew back into my hand after about 10 seconds, from that other room.

Wish I had the guts to retrain in that skill!

The change looks good!

I haven't been playing much at all in a while, but I just wanted to pop in and say how much this work is appreciated. People who don't hurl have no idea how great these small improvements are. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I am afraid to use hurling as a support style because I am afraid to hurl my primary weapon. (like what if I create a hurl macro that I intend to only use with ebladed weapons, but I get mixed up and hit the hurl macro when I am holding my awesome fusion weapon).

Is there an update planned that would help me out? Like a confirmation requirement that can be toggled on a per weapon basis? (I would turn the toggle off for javelins, but require confirmation for, say, tridents).

If you use a short script instead of a macro, you could have it GLANCE before HURLing and have the script cancel the attack if you're holding your main weapon. The only problem is that you have to remember to edit the script if you start using a different weapon.

If you want, I could write one for Stormfront in about 5 minutes this evening (I don't use Lich, so I'm not familiar with how scripts are written for it).

That's a great stop-gap idea. I generally only hurl weapons intended to be hurled, but occasionally I hurl my skinning dagger. Oops.

Star - that's an interesting idea... I would probably refine it to glance and throw ONLY IF the description of the weapon in my hand contains, say, the word javelin. That way I would only hurl javelins, and non of my melee weapons are javelins or would likely ever be javelins.

I say you write the script and post it. I personally don't use stormfront, but I bet it would help out someone else.

Before I had a returning javelin, I would use 3-5 different javelin and hurl at least 2 or 3 at the creature. By the time a 2nd or 3rd was hurled, the 1st javelin would be within reach to pick up.

Hurl, hurl, hurl, get 3rd javelin. Etc. Worked if you got the random stuck in a creature throw too.

Ok, should just be able to create a new script and copy/paste into Stormfront, but make sure you change "dagger" to the actual weapon you'll be using. Also, if you prefer to attack in a stance other then offensive, change that too. Assuming you name the script "hurl" and you're attacking a kobold, you'd start the script by typing: .hurl kobold

Start:
Match Dagger dagger
Match Other right hand
put glance
Matchwait

Dagger:
put stance off
put hurl %1
exit

Other:
exit

Slightly fancier, this one will stow your weapon if you have the wrong one in your hand and retrieve the one you intend on using (in this case, a dagger), if you have a valid container set with the STOW verb (I claim no responsibility if the script grabs the wrong dagger if you're carrying more then one):

Start:
Match Dagger dagger
Match Other right hand
put glance
Matchwait

Dagger:
put stance off
put hurl %1
exit

Other:
put sheath
put get my dagger
goto Dagger

PS Yes, I too can see several ways these could be improved.
PPS No, I won't be editing them to include your suggestions. Do it yourself or write your own script.

BHTM, that is pretty much how my young hurler does it too. Half a dozen weapons, throw a few and by the time you've thrown the third, you can pick up the first. It's a pain though when the critter leaves the room. Doable, but a bit of work.

"HURL has been updated to let you HURL without specifying the target"

Can you aim for a body location without specifying the target using HURL? If so, how? I tried "hurl back" and I got a message about my backpack. I wanted to hit the creature in the room in the back WITHOUT SPECIFYING said creature.

Anyone?

Only via using the AIM verb, same as AMBUSH or I assume FIRE.

For melee, we set aim for a location, then its just one command "ambush".

But for melee, even if you have aim set, you use a different verb to attack without location.

I am still uncertain how it works for thrown. Are you saying, with aim set, you can never throw a weapon without aiming unless you clear aim first?

Both hurl and UAC attacks will always try the aimed version if you have an AIM target set. It is sort of a big pain for those of us who use them as secondary skills.

Agreed. FIRE is also the same way. To clarify the issue:

As pretty much everyone knows, swingers have two attack verbs, ATTACK and AMBUSH. This lets a swinger keep their favorite target permanently saved via AIM HEAD (or whatever) and use the aimed version at their leisure. It's really convenient.

The problem is when the swinger wants to use UAC et. al. as a backup: since you no doubt have AIM HEAD for your primary attack, you're going to end up using targeted attacks. Until you clear your AIM, but then when you go back to swinging, AMBUSH won't work.

The real issue is that the paradigm is different for swinging vs the other combat styles, and it adds a burden on the player when their character crosses over that threshold. My archer and monk have no issue with the way AIM works, because their macros are set up around it and, more importantly, I'm in the mindset to handle it.

I can see two potential solutions: move thrown, ranged, and UAC to match the two-verb system that melee uses, or giving AIM more granularity.

I really like the ATTACK/AMBUSH dichotomy, but given that UAC already has 4 verbs that all need to be used to be effective, doubling that to eight seems unwieldy. Thus, I suggest:

AIM HEAD: Targets the head for all combat styles. Short and convenient for people with one hunting style, doesn't break backwards compat with people's macros.
AIM AMBUSH HEAD: Targets the head, just for the AMBUSH VERB. (or AIM HEAD AMBUSH, whichever makes more sense behind the scenes)
AIM UAC HEAD
AIM PUNCH HEAD: et. al, for those who don't want to target their jabs, and those who want to go full Wookiee to grapple off arms
AIM HURL HEAD
AIM FIRE HEAD
AIM STATUS: Quick printout of the targets you've chosen for different strikes.

I know it's a bit of an ask for a niche issue, but it'd be nice.

Looks like a new thrown weapon is need to parallel ambush. Synonym time:

cast, catapult, chuck, dash, fire, fling, heave, hurl, hurtle, launch, lob, loft, peg, pelt, pitch, sling, toss

Here is some more detailed information (like I said I expect a lot of races ought to be currently capable of hurling mauls with sufficient strength and perhaps a sufficiently light enough maul):

At 50 strength bonus, a 1 pound lightened maul can be thrown with a quick flick of the wrist

At 55 strength bonus, a base weight mattock (8lbs) can be hurled with a quick flick of the wrist
