So, with the new year, I've been trying to think of some neat things to drop into the feeders. But figured I'd ask what you'd like to see! Keep in mind the normal things you find in the feeders when offering suggestions. I have a short list of questions!

[*] Do you like themed sets?

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?

[*] Are society restricted items nice?

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?

Feel free to also just suggest things you might want/like to see more that aren't listed above in the questions.

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Yes, especially if they work together like matched armor accessory sets or weapon/shield/enhansive combos.

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
Anything that gives weight and history is good. Small inklings of a history on the items or in the looks can be expansed on by the owner. See below.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
Only if it is a property that does not stop them from being enchanted.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
I am indifferent to them.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
If you mean unlockables, no.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
I like base items more. Very high capacity or very very (magically) light items beat out a chunk of metal. You would make alot of friends with veniom infused armors that are below the standard minimums.

Feel free to also just suggest things you might want/like to see more that aren't listed above in the questions.

I would love to see the above mentioned set and historical items show up in enchantable form with forged bonuses on them. That way we can take the history and have it worked on to produce a weapon that will really get used. I imagine you could start a small civil war in the fighting over gear sets of basic but enchantable gear that clearly originated from a Sabrar or the Order of the Golvern Star.

I would further like to see matched worn item sets suitable for us minimalist types (no longs, no superfluous items). For instance, a nice matched cloak, tunic, pants, boots with respectable stats and short but interesting descriptions. If you make them culturally significant, all the better.

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Yes - particularly sets that can be used/worn together (as per previous post).

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
Definitely. In fact, I'm mostly responding just so I can put a "yes" behind this one.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
See prior post about being enchantable. Really nice armor/weapons will go unused if it's outgrown. Just see the number of enhancive items that are used for nothing but fusion orb fodder. Many of them would be nice at 4x, but they're often 1x or 2x and would go unused if it wasn't for being able to orb them. Even at 3x, I think many of them would see the same fate.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
I'm also indifferent to these.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
Also, not a fan of unlocking. It just means I have to hope I'm online/available the same time the merchant is AND I'm lucky enough to get picked.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
Rare raw materials that aren't otherwise available, yes. For example, I can get many metals from the forging shops. Lots of cloths and dyes are already available from shops. Tehir materials and dyes come to mind. Slabs that I could have a forger work, but which aren't available from the forging shops could be nice. Anything I could already buy somehow in game for material, though, isn't very interesting.

[*] Feel free to also just suggest things you might want/like to see more that aren't listed above in the questions.
These are more "out there", but...

Work certificates of some type would be really nice. Things like "good for one free alter" or "deepening one item of your choice". Merchant work that a player could claim via an ASSIST/REFERRAL (like the premium contest wins use). Certainly, rarer services ("good for 1 free unlocking of an item") would be even more desireable, but even the basics I think would get a good reception. By controlling the number in the feeder, the increased work load on GMs could be managed so that it's not a burden.

How about fusion orbs instead of some of the current enhancives?

Maybe fusion arms and armor?

Did someone mention OGS? Who do I have to kill?

Heh, Menos has good ideas. I don't agree with all of them but his ideas are sound.

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Yes, please!

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
Menos hit it on the head with OGS. Other Empire based select groups, Giant clans and yes, your classic elven goodness would appeal to myself. I will add that while it doesn't have to be that significant to matter to myself, the more historically significant the better. Sure, I'd love to have some ancestral bow of some long dead elven house fall into my hands (although I'd prefer some giant clan bow...but who's heard of that). Some knight's sword from some remote village of the Empire or something. However, I'm all for finding something that belongs in a museum or is historically relevant.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
Absolutely. I'd go so far as to say I'd take something 1x if the downgrade in enchant made the other attributes considerably more appealing. I think this is where you'll see a lot of derivation in responses.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
I am all for it. However, if you are restricting something this significantly, again I would say the benefits have to match the restriction.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
It depends. I would initially say yes. However, this is dependent upon the frequency it can be worked upon. If it's restricted to only your merchants versus all merchants, again the benefits need to match the restrictions.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
I think I would need more info to give a proper answer here. Are you talking about finding a veil iron meteor in a box that will be made into something if you hand it over? This would be similar to a token type item. If you mean a strip of veniom in a box that you can in turn use to fancy up your backpack, not so much. A block of lor to use at a merchant to create a runestaff, yes. A bit of lor to make buttons from, not so much.

I think the issue here is not truly having a good grasp on what the base ability is for treasure feeder items. If 4x with flares is the base you work from, the easiest addition is to make the item historically significant in some varied amount. However, weapons or armor of legend tend to strike me as more significant than average. I'd be glad to lose a couple enchants, limit an item to Voln use only, but the result has to be a weapon people will still desire. 3x Voln only, OGS historical waraxe that is ridiculous against undead...uhm yes. 2x weapon that was used on The Wall that is 8x against demons only...RAR. If you are saying 3x and somewhat crit-weighted with a random loresong, that's okay but to me that's not really feeder quality. It'd be a nice kick in the pants to find it but I doubt I'd actually use it.

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Yes, particularly sets that are clearly themed but still leave room to build upon them so you can integrate them with other items.

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
As a bard, YES. Any item with a loresong is always a special treat.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
Sure, and I'll echo the "as long as it's further enchantable" caveat.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
Yes, I think so. This can tie into the loresongs quite neatly I'm sure. An item that hints at the dark purpose of CoL.. HMMM.. ;)

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
I don't usually have a lot of interest in unlockable items, in terms of actually waiting to get them unlocked. However, I would be more than happy to sell a find to someone more patient than myself!

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
Yes, although I need some way to remind myself that they exist when I locker them for later work.

--Feel free to also just suggest things you might want/like to see more that aren't listed above in the questions.

If I were to rank the items above in order of most-to-least preferred:
Loresongs
Themed sets
Society items
3x items
Alter fodder
Unlockable items

I think more items that highlight areas outside of the playable gameworld would add great depth and RP potential, I would love to see sets (not necessarily clothes, either!) that hail from the places we're supposedly from. Cities in the human empire, the elven settlement in the Wyrdeep forest, wherever the Dhe'Nar come from... etc.

The same goes for society items: the human empire is dotted with Voln monasteries, some with very different views on the world (per Scribes' Voln history doc), that I bet could tie into some varying enhancive qualities. There must be some other dens of iniquity in the world for CoL, and more places with Grimswarm threats as well.

Oh, and definitely items regarding the Order of the Golvern Star. ;)

Yes. Especially resistances.

Yes, very much so.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
Yes. As long as the merchants come around.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
No.

Other items: Scripted items. Armor with resistances. 3 slot fusion gear. Accuity runestaves. I'd even go for the old high enchant armor from Anfelt that explodes after X number of hits or so much time worn. Tokens for merchant work, unlocking, alter session, EZscripts, custom spell preps/verbs/swears/etc.

All great feedback so far!

For the items for merchants to work further on, not just unlockables, but things like finding special items that the merchant would then make into something else. Like take nirnroot from The Elder Scrolls, that you can turn in for a potion. Or winning a prize at a carnival that you can trade in for a bigger prize. It's just a rough idea, and I'm just curious of what you all think.

And for raw material, I was thinking more like "a lor branch" that you could use for adornments and such in normal alterations.

I'll echo Doug.

Sounds interesting on the material fodder, I like that. I'v kept "junk" EG prizes cause I liked the material and wanted it added into something I use before. For example the mistwood table legs, a Merchant was kind enough to turn an axe I had into a mistwood hafted one for me with one.

So things of that nature are great for customizing gear. And maybe tossing a few Sadie alter scrolls in as the certificate idea would be nice to see, like the ones we got from attending Anfelt.

Late to the party, but...

[*] Do you like themed sets?
- Yes

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
- Sure, it's always neat to have extra conversation material

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
- Only if the enchant doesn't matter or is outweighted by the other properties (see massive weighting/padding)

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
- Indifferent

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
- Definitely, the biggest appeal of GS over other MMOs at this point is customization

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
- No, alterers don't care about them (so you can just pay more coin) and won't let you mod material base anymore (which was the biggest thing that raw materials mattered for)

Not too terribly long ago a friend found a cloth and inside it was a bunch of, for lack of a better word, old junk. However, the old junk all pointed to the pieces having been owned by a member of the Order of the Golvern Star. Which, quite frankly, sounds awesome. The only downside to the set, in my personal opinion, was the lack of loresongs.

I love seeing things with some historical context or with a story behind them. Loresongs are awesome, but the occasional item that you find and you look at and think "there has just got to be a story behind this sucker" is really fun.

I'd love to see sets of items for different professions, too. Like you find a chest inside your strongbox and inside are the personal items of some long forgotten sorcerer, but it includes like a chalk bag and a runestaff and some method of making sorcery components, and some enhancive doodad, and so forth. Like the unique sets from Neverwinter Nights 2.. those were really fun to get.

Maybe try to get input on an item from each GM who is working on or recently has worked on some documentation and have an item drop that reflects said documentation. An amulet for the guild that searches other veils for the Faendryl or(the fiance would nag me if I didn't suggest it) some item, like a handfasting cloth, that might be in a future sylvan wedding document. An old Erithian Order of the Watchful Eye katana or badge. A model of an ashrim ship. Random different stuff that would be neat for RP value and make people say "hey, I should go check out this documentation to learn more".

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Sort of. I like having the whole set - not just A piece of a 5 piece set that may never be able to be put together. I also like items who join up to do other things.

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
Yes.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
Not by me.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
Yes, as long as the bonuses make sense for the person in that society.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
Yes, especially unlockable.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
Yes!

I also like items are are themed to areas, creatures, professions, races, cultures, etc!

Like the dwarven runeblades. Or the elemental runestaves. Anything that has properties that progress based on each other is great. Given how infrequently they tend to be around, you could probably have them be really nice additional properties, or even base properties.

Do NOT make "sets of weapons"; learn the lesson from the last times (runeblades, runestaves). Nobody can use more than two weapons at a time, and relatively few groups typically gather where the users are all of the correct levels and also have the proper items.

* Make the sets work with other items that the same person can wear/use. *

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Definitely! I don't think they all have to come in one nifty little box, however. You could break up sets and folks who hold onto the individual parts could eventually obtain a full, themed set.

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
Definitely! Loresongs are awesome. It would also be cool to sort of 'front load' items from upcoming storylines. With the way people sell things and toss things in the pawnshops, it would be fun to know that you've got something meaningful tucked away in your locker that relates to the storyline of the moment.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
Not by this girl.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
Meh...

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
Yes, please!

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
I don't, personally. If I want to make an item out of a super rare material, I think it should be really difficult to do and it may or may not involve chopping something to bits that I worked really hard to find. My main concern is that it would drive down the value and rarity of certain materials. As long as we stick to the common stuff, I wouldn't mind it.

Just a couple of other inklings:
I thought it might be nice to have items that relate to specific quests. Hunt for History items are so cool; I'd really love to see them make a more significant return. I would also love to find something that relates to a quest that's already in place. For example, the Wehnimer's dragon quest--has ANYONE done this? A few box-found hints or jumping off points for quests like these would be really fun for those who want to be involved in them.

I'm sure this will be met with plenty of flack, but I'm going to say it anyway: I'd like to see some legendary items re-introduced into the game. There are so many that have vanished because people hoarded them and then quit GS. I in no way want to see these items become common or less valuable, but I would really like them to be on the market again or at least available.

I might get some boos and hisses for this, but I see no reason why you couldn't introduce a few items that are restricted in ways other than a society. Items restricted by race, gender, or profession could add a bit of spice to treasure finding.

[*] Do you like themed sets?

Sometimes. Mostly though, if they aren't good containers, or end up taking the place of containers I'd rather wear, they'll go unused.

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?

Always a neat thing to find. Items that have history add to the feeling of immersion, imo.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?

They can be. Especially in the case of runestaves or lighter armor (for pures, since they can generate a bunch of DS with spells). Squares on the other hand need all the AS/DS generation they can get their hands on.

[*] Are society restricted items nice?

I think these are great. Especially when they're themed to go nicely with the general idea or mechanics behind the society.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?

This sounds like it could be really hit or miss. For someone who doesn't see many merchants, the item would just be whatever it was in the form it was found in. Otherwise, it could be really fun to have worked on and upgraded for those who are more frequently able to be around merchants.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?

Yes. I think finding 'a lor branch' or 'a hunk of veniom ore' would be really neat to find. I'll also throw it out there that finding unique types of gems could be interesting too. Especially since they can be used in some functional peices of jewlery that create an interesting or unique looking item already.

Feel free to also just suggest things you might want/like to see more that aren't listed above in the questions.

So, with the new year, I've been trying to think of some neat things to drop into the feeders. But figured I'd ask what you'd like to see! Keep in mind the normal things you find in the feeders when offering suggestions. I have a short list of questions!

[*] Do you like themed sets?
Yes, even though odds are they wont stay together probably, getting a set of anything would be neat.

[*] Do you like items that might have a story behind them, even if nothing will come of said story?
Yes, an item having a loresong, or some other kind of history again is neat, shows some thought went into the item and that its more than what it appears to be.

[*] Are 3x items with better than normal properties desired?
No, the way things are set up in game, almost anything under 4x is if not worthless, is at least not worthwhile.(Yes i know there are exceptions, but usually those are extremely rare, auction type items in general)

[*] Are society restricted items nice?
Yes, more specialized items can be nice, neat at times, and allow the item to be more defined.

[*] Do you like items that merchant NPCs might be able to work on further?
No?, if by further you mean unlockable, then definately NO. I and most the people I know have umpteen items that are unlockable by such and such merchant who never shows again, or at best shows MAYBE one time a year at a festival. While I like the idea about things being unlockable in general, the restictive aspect of it usually only being the original merchant(GM) who can do so takes a lot away from it.

[*] Do you like raw materials for alter fodder?
No/Yes, depends I guess on the material, in general there are plenty of material somewhere, someplace we can use unless you're talking about the ultra rare stuff such as the Tehir materials, etc.
