>[Warrior Guild, East Lawn]
The paths from the north and west break into a large, well-worn spot in the middle of this expansive part of the East Lawn. Obviously, this bare patch was created by the many guild denizens who commit their robust daily practice here. You also see Master at Arms Olaff, Master at Arms Erta, Master at Arms Witt, Master at Arms Khalea, Master at Arms Gaetan, a rickety wood shed and a row of workout wheels.
Obvious paths: north, west
>
Khalea stops her activities long enough to tell you, "If you need my expert training, just ask, ja?"
>ask ert about train
Erta says, "I remember you, you were training in Warrior Tricks..."
You ask Erta about getting some training in Warrior Tricks.
Erta pulls Umbraxus aside for some instruction.
[Warrior Guild, Shady Lawn]
This is a quiet corner of the lawn and rather private as well, providing a good refuge from the din of the practice area--a perfect place for discussion, contemplation or simply escaping the crowd. You also see Master at Arms Erta and a weapons case.
Obvious paths: out
>
Erta picks a rattan mace from the training weapon case.
Erta holds forth her mace in an aggressive stance and shuffles back and forth on her heels, closing in on you then backing away. Finishing this odd dance, Erta leans on her mace and says, "Your schtance in combat is always important. A gud varrior can perfect his or her schtance more subtly than the usual five. Let me show you how."
>
Erta helps you practice the little steps between the five classic stances. Barking out the changes in stance, she drills your ability to change stances quickly. After a few minutes of this, she nods approvingly at your progress.
>
Erta bows to you. "You have been a gud schtudent."
Erta returns her rattan mace to the weapon case.
>
Erta escorts you back to the training grounds.

You learned stance perfection. It is a rarely used trick, the first time you learn it you can change you stance by increments of 10% and the second time by 5%. The basic five stances mentioned are increments of 20% with offensive being 0 and defensive being 100. To use the trick you just type wtrick sperf #. I think the last time I had used it was just doing guildwork so I could find the closest stance that allowed no advantage against the person I was helping.

Ok. It just seems like there really wasn't a whole lot of instruction going on there. I mean, sure my CHARACTER got instruction, but me, the player, didn't really. Maybe this is something that could use a bit of spiffing up.

Thanks for the info.

There are quite a few critters in the 20-30 range where an intermediate stance is useful. I don't think I've had a use for it since arctic manticores though. If you have an imitation monk build, it would remain useful to higher levels, the intermediate stance tactic fits UAC/dodge much better than weapon/plate configuration.

Funny. Arctic manticores are the one creature I remember using stance perfection against. :)
