For a week, storms have hammered the lands and throughout Elanith the servants of the eel were searching and seeking. It all started with the sighting of a cyclone out in the sea...
As the cyclone grew, the sound of chanting could be heard in the wind. Female voices, all in the higher registers, called out on the wind as if plea with the storm. As indigo light began to invade the winds, the voice seemed to cry out and shadowy shapes scattered across the lands.
That night, the Landing was the first to see the eel, lampreys, and crabs that invaded the lands. Each bearing indigo or silver as markings on their bodies. They seemed to be searching the coast, but for what none could say.
On Restday, River’s Rest reported oddities by the river and they were the first to see the Nereid. Blue-tinged and frail, she was unable to convey words but could pantomime. She warned of a danger.
Mere hours later, the Landing reported a similar issue with eels, lampreys, and crabs striking out at them again. They, too, rescued a Nereid, but she was damaged, her memory not right, and had difficulty conveying herself. She felt urgency but could not explain why.
The evening of Volnes saw eels in the west, they too were seeking, but it was Adventurers who found yet another Nereid. This one was confused and blind.
Tilamaires, hours after the last sunlight struck the volcano, eels, crabs, and lampreys heralded the discovery of another Nereid. This one was slowly being strangled by an eel, which had to be torn from her throat. Confused, she tried to express her confusion and what was happening but kept saying one thing. She had to get to Caligos Isle.
That same night, Solhaven fell under the same plague of indigo-faced invaders and the Nereid they found was mute, her thoughts strange and aquatic.
Leyan saw a Nereid that was deaf in the streets of Ta’Vaalor, and in Ice Mule Trace the Nereid found running from the anguillid and their cousins seemed to speak all languages but was unable to form coherent communication without the presence of many.
In the depths of Zul Logoth, the lamprey chased a young Nereid that was bereft of her tongue on Niiman, and in Kraken’s fall yet another Nereid was found who was mute and confused.
Through perseverance, Adventurers discovered that they were sisters and that they needed to be reunited on Caligos Isle.
Day of the Huntress came, one week to the day since the cyclone had descended and the Adventurers brought the Nereids through the Ebon Gates to Caligos Isle. Once reunited, they merged into a single Nereid who shared this tale...
“The Lady, no other name was given, bade my sisters and me to come to Caligos Isle that we might try to save the people of the Storm Father’s Wrath. He is coming, he is coming to destroy Caligos Isle and you must get out to the open sea. There, the allies of my Lady can guide you to safety.”
She went on to explain that the night of the cyclone, the Lady asked her and her sisters to come to Caligos. Her sisters are afraid of Caligos because they lost a sister long ago to the Island and have never been able to recover her.
Some speculated that the missing sister could be the soft voice that has, over the years, spoken to various Adventurers during times of need. She could be the voice that guided them to Warden Shaemire and added him in find the Fishing Village in the third year.
Others speculated that perhaps the sister was the voice of the Sea Nymph that Ghezresh had long ago deceived into guiding him to land and then, once she had served her purpose, consigned her to be dinner for his eels.
The Nereid went on to explain that Ghezresh had discovered the Lady’s plan and had started to send minions to attack her and her sisters as they began a ritual that would teleport her to Caligos Isle. When Charl saw that the minions of Ghezresh were wandering his seas, he took action, and as the two deities collided the ritual of the Nereids went awry.
It fractured her into many parts and scattered her throughout Elanith.
She expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the care that the Adventurers had afforded her fractured parts, but then called out her warning again.
“Help me to spread the word, flee Caligos. He is coming.”
