I'll admit that I was rather excited about the prize posibilities, and a bit irked at the change, but over the years, the most fun I've ever had in GS has always been when great stories were out there to participate in. Let's not lose sight of that.
One of those fun quests was Blackswan Castle. I've done it twice, and both times it was a hoot. Each time it was substantially different; both times it was fun. That last word there is key: fun.
For 15 bucks, what I really want is a whole lot of that. In fact, we seem to have lost sight of pay events that don't involve some big prize that we get focused on. Blackswan Castle and The Lorminstra Quest were both great fun and no one ever expected some great prize at the end. Not to say we didn't get one, but we went for the fun, not because we expected a prize. It wouldn't hurt to look back at some of those events without thinking so much about any carrot other than the fun of the quest.

Another very well done post on the matter.
I never did the previous quests, and have always been curious about the place. So getting a chance to see it first hand will be a delight I get to enjoy in a couple more days.
prizes, handling of issues, and wretched communication (which sadly is kinda the norm and not just from staff to players and visa versa but amongst staff themselves. Which is my major annoyance/issue of all this, the poor communication by all.) all put aside. I am excited and looking forward to foregoing one movie night with family to do this quest for the fun, experience, and enlightenment of an area I've always been curious about.

I woke up at 5am my time and read the prize revision announcement. I uttered 'uh oh', went to get a cup of tea and my reading glasses, pressed the 'since this message' link and sat back to read. There's an inevitable pattern when there are post event announcement revisions.

I'm not participating Black Swan. I see the word 'quest' or 'puzzle' and to me you may as well be saying the words 'maths exam' or 'visit to proctologist'. But i know,a lot of you guys love that sort of thing.
I just wanted to wish participants all the best. Have fun - as Kerl says - and please bring that fun with you to the Highman Games ... Coming to an island near you very soon!

If the final challenge is a giant troll asking me to turn my head and cough... I'm settling for tier 5.
