$14.99?
Come on Simu, this is a 2 hour run that to get anything worthwhile will have to be run multiple times over. And the part that really worries me about this is the statement, "...at an introductory price of $14.99." Phrasing like that is almost always reserved for when you will be raising the rate later on, please tell me THAT isn't going to happen or I see this quest languishing worse than Night at the Academy.

Is that what happened with Academy Quest or Black Swan pricing? No. It's not.
>Come on Simu, this is a 2 hour run that to get anything worthwhile will have to be run multiple times over.
It's two hours of fast-paced krolvin-killing action with enhanced mana, health, and stamina recovery; enhanced loot drops; bonus prizes; and no death's sting penalties for departing or decaying. Most of the ticketed prizes are attainable with one run. I'm disappointed that you don't find them worthwhile, as we spent a lot of time and effort coming up with appropriately themed prizes and always hate to hear that our efforts are worthless. These first runs will also have the commemorative siegery miniature, which takes on the character's features, weapon or fighting style, and some of its inventory.
In all, I think this event is pretty neat. As always, it is up to the individual to decide whether or not they would like to participate. If, as you say, there is nothing worthwhile to it, then you won't be missing out if you choose to sit this one out.

So do I! I just hope there are some tickets left when I wake up on the morning of the 1st so I can participate :) Will it be possible to do private group bookings in the future at all and if so, will any of these be available in May to qualify for the commemorative miniature?

Solomon will correct me if I am wrong, but both private quests and commemorative miniatures for private runs in May should be available from the get go for this quest. You'll need to email quests@simutronics.com to set up a private run. Remember that you'll need at least a week of lead time for a private run, and must be signed up before the day of the quest.

This kinda sold it for me....more so than the prizes to be honest...but then there's little I need these days except more RP and challenges like this! I Will definitely apply a suck it and see approach and see if the ticketed event is as good as I expect it to be....assuming there's a place / slot still free that doesn't require me to stay awake until some ungodly hour. Looking forward to this.

>Details!
You see GameMaster Vanah the Fortuneteller.
He appears to be a Giantman.
He is taller than average and appears to be old. He has sea blue eyes and a healthy, natural blush to his fair skin. He has tangled, indigo-streaked blue hair twisted up into a spiral. He has a round face, an upturned nose and thin ears.
He has a chest tattoo on his chest, and an ankle tattoo on his ankle.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a sephwir heavy crossbow in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold-stringed black canvas bag, a pair of rugged climbing boots, some double leather, a softened white suede satchel, a large symbol, a leather-strapped traveling doll trunk, and a survival kit.
>ask dockhand about prize
You ask the dockhand a question about your commemorative prize.
The leather-faced dockhand nods at you, reaches into his satchel, and tosses you a giant fortuneteller miniature!
>look my mini
Painted sea blue eyes gaze from the round face of the masterfully detailed likeness of a giant fortuneteller. He has tangled, indigo-streaked blue hair twisted up into a spiral. He grasps a sephwir heavy crossbow, ready for battle. Scratched into the bottom of one of his rugged climbing boots are the words, "Troubled Waters ~ 5114."
You see GameMaster Vanah the Warrior.
She appears to be a Half-Elf.
She is average height and appears to be very young. She has hazel eyes and fair skin. She has shoulder length, tousled brown hair. She has a freckled nose.
She is in good shape.
She is holding an austere vultite crescent axe in her right hand.
She is wearing a gold-inlaid thin kelyn warhorn, a suit of spiked dull grey plate and mail, a silver-edged matte jet sword symbol, a mithril-bound spiked vultite greatshield, a bright faenor earcuff, and a large golden yellow pack.

There is attack and idle messaging custom to the weapon type as well.

I love the concept of the siegery minis! Is it sad that I'm already planning an outfit with this in mind for the bardess who is scheduled to run it on Sunday? (Don't answer that). Also, I'm amazed more people haven't signed up yet! I fully expected to look in this morning and see most, if not all, of the slots sold.

Since you have to have a hand free, it can't capture both weapons. If you are holding a weapon, it will use that weapon only. If your hands are free, it will look to see if you are at least 1x in a weapon style. This may produce false positives for people with more than one weapon style, so if you have a weapon you want used, hold it.
TWC without holding a weapon:
The leather-faced dockhand nods at you, reaches into his satchel, and tosses you a giantwoman bloodletter miniature!

Painted amber eyes gaze from the blotchy face of the masterfully detailed likeness of a giantwoman bloodletter. She has chin length, braided black hair shaved at the temples. She grasps twin razern short swords, ready for battle. Scratched into the bottom of one of her feet are the words, "Troubled Waters ~ 5114."

Any chance it will or can capture an instrument held by a pure bard who has no weapon training?

...sure! It'll look for instrument in hands, then for instrument in inventory, then just do a tambourine BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE BEST.
>What will it do to a 0.5x TWC, 2x brawling monk? I hope its not a couple of fist-scythes when the empty hands are supposed to be empty.
...sure! It'll look for UCS gloves/handwraps that are worn first if there is brawling training, then move on to weapons.
WHAT ELSE?

There were no issues on the alpha or beta test runs. I can't promise that you won't try something we didn't expect. There was a new bug discovered on run 99 of the Droughtman's Maze tournament back in 2011. 98 runs happened where the bug didn't occur, and then it did.

Thanks for the information! Actually, the Beacon officers were discussing doing a Black Swan run, but I didn't know at all how to set up private runs. I'm pretty sure Khiya knew how, and the reason we didn't end up doing it was just lack of coordination on our part, not lack of knowledge how. If this isn't variously on the webpages, it's quite important to know I think!
I wonder if we can coordinate a Beacon run at this. I haven't read all the posts in this folder (but maybe half), but I have a question I'm not sure was asked or answered. I saw that the Blackscrip was redeemable in at the dock in WL. So is it possible to do the quest from RR, and if so, do we need to travel to WL to get the prizes? My impression is that, like Black Swan, we can get a portal from any town, and the prizes are basically at the end of the quest before we leave the area. In other words, it IS in WL, but people doing the quest get transported to the instance of the quest, and then transported back to their starting location after they are done. Can Blackscrip be redeemed at some point later as well? I'm guessing for that part we maybe need to travel to the Landing. (This is mainly for clarification, my main is a sorcerer with Planar Shift, so I don't care too much if I have to use chalk to get there.)

This is correct. You will be gathered from wherever you are ten minutes before the quest start time. After the quest, you will have 30 minutes to choose a prize at the Bait Shop (if you wish to do so) and split up the loot before you need to pass through the swirling portal that will take you back to where you were picked up from. If you miss that time frame, you are hoofing it. It was fine for Black Swan, but I may need to up it for Troubled Waters to account for box picking -- we'll see. It's 30 minutes for now.
Blackscrip can be redeemed at some point later as well, but you will need to travel to the Landing to access the Bait Shop.
>Crap. Sorry if I referred to you as she before...
I am a she! But it's easier to catch gender pronoun errors as a male character (her/her vs his/him).

>Would it be possible for a non-combat related person to go and actually be of assistance (opening boxes, etc). Or would I just be a hindrance? I'd really like to get the segiery made in the likes of Zakken..but I don't want to hurt the groups chances. :(
This is something I've gone around and around with. People play this game for all different reasons, and I want to offer an event that everyone can enjoy. The problem is, the quest can't tell between someone who is sitting in the safe area opening boxes, and four people who are hiding in the safe area waiting for the quest to end so they can get their prize. I am not knocking people who do that, but it makes it difficult from a design standpoint. For quests that scale to the number of participants, those who aren't actively participating can cause some grief for those who are.
For example, in Black Swan most of the puzzle-related roundtime is linked to the number of participants on the idea that when there is a knob you have to turn ten times, it should take two participants roughly the same amount of time as it would take a group of ten. If, in that group of ten, half of them aren't participating, the quest doesn't know that and can't adjust the roundtime accordingly. So it takes the group of five participating players twice as long as it would have had all ten questers been turning the knob.
As the sailor and dockhand NPCs say, you'll get blackscrip for krolvin killed. It's based on the average number killed per person. If you are sitting on the safe area, or if you're dead, or if you're in a sanctuary, krolvin won't come after you. Krolvin that don't come after you can't be killed. You don't have to land a single blow, but you do have to face the danger. Pick in the field, open the loot chests, lead prisoners to safety. Chances are there will be someone else on your run that can mop up the krolvin that come after you.
If you're still concerned about bringing a non-combat character to a combat-heavy quest, there's also the option of setting up a private run and quitting immediately (or waiting around I guess, but there is a quit option if you ask the sailor NPC). You'll get the base number of blackscrip (50) but you'll be able to collect the mini (if you do it in May).

Re: Pricing on 05/02/2014 08:35 AM CDT
I understand completely, and I do get that my play style on Zakken is completely my choice and I have to pay for those choices. I'm by no means demanding you guys alter things to fit my play style. I was just simply wondering about the event as a whole, where in I could hopefully find some way to participate. I'm more then willing to brave the combat on Zak (more like hide like a chicken and hope to not get spotted), but I did not want to punish the other players if my deaths hurt their cause. I'm just trying to make sure my play style choices do no negatively effect the other players in the group. This is also why I've posted on the plat forums asking if any group is willing to accept Zakken along, rather then just signing up and forcing the group to deal with me.
Zak is not completely useless. He is in fact a very capable locksmith, who has very good hiding skills (more then 3x in hiding plus halfling bonuses). I just want to make complete sure that my possible (likely) deaths will not hurt the rest of the group in any meaningful way.

It will affect the group in that krolvin won't come after you while you're dead, but as long as your strategy isn't to just stay dead the whole time it should be fine. The negative penalties from deaths are localized to the individuals.
Semi-related, there is now a container on the schooner to store boxes and other heavy things during the quest without having to worry about the janitor or having someone babysit the loot, but make sure to clear it out before the schooner docks!

This is brilliant! It pained my soul during my Academy runs that we had to leave SO many boxes behind. Wee! :)
Best,

>>Crap. Sorry if I referred to you as she before...
>I am a she! But it's easier to catch gender pronoun errors as a male character (her/her vs his/him).
If you had to choose between being thought of as male or a rather famous game show host, which would you prefer?

During the Prime beta, we had a locksmith stay on the schooner probably about half the time, picking the rounds of boxes that we brought to them. It worked out pretty well, and out team was pretty efficient at killing and we managed to do a pretty good job on the rescues too I think. By the time we were done we had "rescued" roughly 200k in silvers in addition to the prisoners. Probably 2/3rds of that was from the boxes. Additionally, he held a bunch of loot items that we found. Now that there will be a box on the schooner, a locksmith might be able to spend more time with the rest of the crew, but to me, his roguish work on and off the Krol ship was invaluable to the team.
