I'd love to run it before the end of the month in order to get a mini, but there are no runs available in a time that I can go. Is it too late to request a special run? The only time-slot that I could do (11pm ET 5/30) has a lock symbol next to it. Due to putting babies to bed and keeping my wife happy, I can't start before 11:30 ET, although I might be able to do 11pm ET with suitable bribe to my wife to appease her. ;)
I could take either my Empath who is lvl 28, or my Warrior who is 24.
Is that possible?

Well, I may have just had the most dismal run in the history of this quest. I'm guessing 50 blackscrip is the minimum?
I killed a decent number of baddies, but didn't rescue a single prisoner. It was a cluster... from the very beginning. Logged in just a few minutes before the quest and realized this was the character who lost his main weapon in one of the invasions a couple months back, and before I could run to my locker to pick up a backup I got scooped up for the quest. Spent the first half hour or more running from bad guys exploring the ship and killing them as I could. (not easy when you have no weapon). Being an empath I could at least whittle them away with boneshatter even though I'm far from trained for it being a THW user.
I finally killed one that was carrying a plain bastard sword and from that point I started dying a lot.
Instead of running from them I tried standing up to them and that was bad. I was self-spelled only going in and it didn't get better since I was solo on the quest. I definitely wouldn't recommend doing it alone, however, if I'd gone in spelled up and with a decent weapon, I'm sure I would have done much better.
Despite the difficulties, I actually had some fun and plan to do it again. I will say however, that the Mast business is very frustrating, and more than a bit overkill. That would be my only complaint.
Now that I got my a$$ handed to me, I plan to request a Shattered run and do this with my 56 million xp Bard, or my 25 million xp Warrior and make the seas run red with the blood of the Krolvin!
Also, I'd like to do this again in Prime at some point with a group and get some revenge, that and see how this quest is supposed to be run.

We have twins, and I have to help get them to bed and then spend a little bit of time with my wife. She would be cranky otherwise. ;) Plus, I'm in CST, which is why I needed the run to start after 11:30 ET. That's the earliest I can usually disengage and get some "me" time. I tried to get in game earlier, but I didn't have stromfront loaded since I rebuilt my system recently and had a hell of a time getting it to install on windows 8.1 so I finally gave up and used my tablet which had it loaded already. Like I said, it was a mess from the very beginning.
Even with all of that craziness, I enjoyed the challenge and had fun with everything except how difficult and frustrating it was being tied to the mast. If I'd been in a group, I could see that it wouldn't be such a big deal, but solo, it was pretty terrible. It took 3 to 5 minutes to get loose each time, and half the time Krol would tighten your bonds and make you start over the process of getting loose, extending the time to get back into action. Then I had at least a couple instances of getting loose only to be killed immediately. The 20 second round times when you bust loose leaves you unspelled up, with no defenses and vulnerable to attack. Having no one to guard you and protect you when this happens is not fun. I would do my best to run away and spellup as fast as I could, but there is only so much you can do in that situation.

It is the trade off for there not being any death's sting for departing or decaying. There has to be a penalty, but at least this penalty doesn't extend past the quest itself.

I definitely did appreciate that aspect of it. I just hated how much of the quest time I spent tied to that mast. Like I said, if I had been there with someone else and not running solo, I'm sure it would have gone differently, but solo, the mast thing is pretty frustrating.
So, if you don't mind satisfying my curiosity, is 50 Blackscrip the mininum? Also, does departing and being tied to the mast the way I did reduce how much you get? I'm wondering because I did kill a few bad guys, but didn't rescue any prisoners. Had I not been so rattled starting out, I probably would have done much better even solo. I survived a pretty decent amount of time before the first death even being unarmed. I killed them solo, and ducked out of the room when things started looking dicey, but eventually my luck ran out.

You start out with 0 points. You earn points for killing krolvin and rescuing prisoners. You are docked points for asking the sailor for healing or raising or by departing or decaying. If you have less than 50 points at the end, after the deductions, it will round up to 50 blackscrip. If you have more than 150, it will round down to 150. So while 50 blackscrip is the minimum you get, it's not the starting point. It's just to make sure you get a decent award even if you flounder.
Heavy death sting's penalties and the feeling that you walk away with nothing when you struggle were two big complaints about the Academy Quest that I tried to address here.

Re: Requesting special runs? on 05/30/2014 09:43 PM CDT
Most likely your group didn't kill enough krolvin overall. For example, If someone spent a lot of time in a safe area then less krolvin spawned to be killed (so less would have been killed overall). It's based on total krolvin killed / number of characters that went.
Also, when you say rescued 'your share' of prisoners does that mean that all of the prisoners were not rescued? If so, that would be a reason as well. And assuming you RAZEd the ship at the end as well (am guessing that doing everything but not RAZEing the ship would cost you scrip).

<<So what would explain not getting the full 150 scrip if you were never healed, raised, departed, or tied to the mast? Rescued your share of prisoners without losing any and killed plenty of krolvin?
<<-Richard/Fjalar.
I think Robert has hit the nail on the head. I checked my logs a moment ago and the info obtained tallies with this theory. Interestingly these were the main issues stemming from the two runs which resulted in max script.
Run 3: Three participants - No deaths - healed by Gwen - 2/9 prisoners personally rescued - All 9 prisoners rescued by group - captain cabin entry - Krolvin killed from first to last - got my personal treasure - ransacked the chests - Personally razed the warship - 150 scrip
Run 4: Solo run - No deaths - self healing with herbs - 4/4 prisoners personally rescued - Failed captain cabin entry - Krolvin killed from first to last - got my personal treasure - ransacked the chests - Personally razed the warship - 150 scrip
The personal razing of the warship (as opposed to someone else doing it) and the ransacking of the chests may have no impact on scrip attained but I included them as they were common factors for both runs.
I'm on a run today so will let others on the run open the chests and raze the ship. But in all else I'll try to stay consistent and then see what the result is in scrip.

The normal amount you should expect is 100 blackscrip. You can't get less than 50 or more than 150, but not hitting the ceiling isn't "losing". You need to really do a phenomenal job killing krolvin as a group to hit 150.

I'll add that we didn't open any of the chests on our first run yet still received 150 scrip (we were too busy slaying krolvin and ran out of time to get back to the chests). We did loot the treasure room and visit the captains quarters though. We also did one final sweep for Krolvin before razing the ship to to try and make sure they were all dead.

<<So, if they aren't spawning very much or if someone is opening boxes on the schooner that affects MY scrip earned even though I'm killing as many krol as I can possibly find?
<<-Richard/Fjalar.
That is the suggestion, but substitute the words 'or if' with 'because, for example' to get a better understanding of what is being suggested. If everyone is off the schooner doing their bit and you kill everything that spawns, even if the spawning seems slower than a hunt in your preferred hunting area, then you should be on target for the best you can get.

>Sounds more like an incentive to solo it to me.
It entirely depends on the person. I mean, in this thread alone there is a person who floundered solo and a person who did brilliantly solo. It was announced very early on that one of the biggest influences on the blackscrip total is krolvin killed as a group. In a group of one, it's all you. That can be good or it can be frustrating. But so can being in a group of any size.
