Bane/Smite (302) will no longer deal half the normal damage when casting against alignment. It will still cost double the mana (4), but you should find it to be respectable damage even at that mana cost.

Yes, against undead smite has a higher damage factor. But damage is capped and at specific endroll thresholds the concussion damage will be the same for each. For example, assuming no channeling bonus or status effect factors and an undead target, the damage cap is achieved at ER 175 for smite and ER 190 with bane. Channeling bonuses and certain status effects will lower those thresholds. There is also a random damage bonus (I think the range is 0 to 10 pts) included with each attack which can also reduce the endroll required to reach the damage cap threshold.
