Thanks to all of the input we received, we've made some adjustments that will hopefully better balance things this year. Not all of this is new, but I'm going to lay out how the arena works at this point.

When you go through the portal into the arena, ALL outside spells are stripped, and then for native casters:
Retribution effect (only) of Cloak of Shadows (712) is stripped
Arcane Barrier (1720), Elemental Targeting (425), and Rapid Fire (515) are stripped

Inside the arena itself:
Most spells over level 10 are now allowed
Implosion (720), Elemental Targeting (425), Censure (316), Judgment (1630), Nature's Fury (635), Sleep (501), Flaming Aura (1706), Spirit Servant (240) are all blocked
Hiding is allowed
No demons, animal companions, or Singing Sword Song (1025)
No wands or embeds
No scrolls

Hopefully, this will help answer some of the questions you may have, and help you to prepare for killing your friends.

But can you still spell up with outside spells once inside the arena?

Blocking 425 is new from last run right? I forget.

Sounds like maybe with scrolls?

What's the logic behind blocking Elemental Targeting (425)?

I am hoping "No wands or imbeds" also includes "no scrolls" please?

Yeah, I don't get the blocking of elemental targeting. It isn't some spell that acts wonky or is an area attack or something that would spill out of the arena. It's just AS.

Sorry, I'd accidentally left scrolls off of my post, but there are no scrolls, either. I edited my post to reflect that. Blocking 425 is new this year and is part of the balancing updates we're trying, along with stripping outside spells.

Unfortunate loss of 50 AS for me but no outside spells at all saves ALOT of buffing up/headache.

Maybe with everyone not super glowing we can actually use melee (offensive DS was basically unhittable for most) rather than UAC this time.

I want prefer using an axe for more gore!

Also, thanks for bringing this back, the whole festival that is. It was a fun time last run and had awesome and thoughtfully put out services (like the Voln tiered raffles) and items.

If I win a wine press, can I perma stick it in my castle?? :D

Animates are allowed, but demons are banned? That seems backwards.

I'm trying to figure out why 1706 and 1720 are mentioned. Spells are stripped on entry. Wands, embeds and scrolls are banned. Is there some other way to get those two spells? Is self-knowledge the culprit?

Actually, I think I am still confused.

Since you mentioned an outside spell strip into the portal of the arena and then there is the actual pit area.

Does that mean no buffing yourself up with other magic items (not necessarily imbeds) or scrolls before your match? Or does that just mean no combat imbeds/scrolls/outside spells while actually fighting?

Will we be able to have friendly pick up matches outside the competition?

After watching various contestants and much discussion, we came to the decision to block Call Swarm (615) in the arenas.

We've also made it so you can spell up easier in the Coliseum, Lower Nexus room. You can freely cast your spells here without fear of spell hindrance.

Thanks Kynlee.

Might want to look at Sandstorm. Had it follow someone out after a surrender.

I expect energy maelstrom and earthen fury will behave similarly. . . also possibly weapon fire.

I've finally had some time in between raffles to look into a few arena issues with people being chased around by spells. Call Lightning (125), Sandstorm (914), Energy Maelstrom (710), and Earthen Fury (917) should now stay in the arena and end when the battle ends. If you're still getting chased, let me know!

Hey, that's what I was told! I couldn't recreate it, but I put in a 'just in case' fix anyway!

>>Would I have needed a CCF ticket to get my armor worked on before?

What's a CCF ticket?

This is a legit question from someone who doesn't know. So having bought a raffle ticket, I now am thinking I'll probably not be able to use it on my armor if I were to win the raffle. It would have been nice to have more information on the ticket other than "case by case".

CCF was a super high-end gear festival where most limits/restrictions were completely thrown out. I see someone linked it above.

I completely understand the uncertainty is frustrating. Unfortunately, I simply cannot approve armor without actually seeing it. There is too wide of a range of padding out there (especially with duskruin recently allowing you to pad your own). I will provide some examples though to help you gauge.
enchantabilitiesAllowed
8xnoneY
8xcommon flaresN
7xcommon flaresY
7xuncommon flaresN
6xuncommon flaresY

Anything with padding must be in hand for an accurate quote.

Any chance you could do the same fix for Call swarm?
